In total, there were 362 players in the 2008 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event, among them several big-name PocketFivers. Appearing on Day 1B was one member of the online poker community who made waves in 2007 by winning the London tournament series’ Main Event, Annette Annette_15 Obrestad. Also in the crowd in the Casino at the Empire was Adam A_Junglen Junglen, who capped off the day’s events with 41,000 chips. Among the leaders overall on Day 1B was PocketFiver Jamie thecronic420 Rosen, who held nearly a stack of nearly 140,000, good for third. Day 2 begins at 1:00pm local time on Monday and will be tracked by PocketFivesLive.com, your source for the best WSOP Europe coverage of online poker players.
Jamie thecronic420 Rosen landed a chip stack of 139,225 when the smoke cleared on Day 1B and is in prime position for Day 2. He holds the third largest chip stack entering Day 2. He won the $100 rebuy on PokerStars for $30,000 in July and took down the $200 rebuy in late June for $40,000. Rosen is fresh off an 81st place finish in the PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker Main Event. He made the final table of the $1,000 No Limit Hold’em Rebuy event of the 2008 World Series of Poker, finishing in eighth place for $79,587. He also finished 395th in the Main Event for $28,950.
Brian aba20 Townsend (pictured at right) finished Day 1B with 71,950 chips, 23rd overall entering Day 2, doubling up with pocket aces late in the day to set himself up for success. PocketFivesLive.com Tournament Reporter Court Harrington, who has been on the scene in the Casino at the Empire, commented on Townsend’s afternoon: “Townsend is one of the most followed and talked about players to come out of the online world. His ability to play is evident and his comfort and familiarity with high pressure situations could give him an edge in this large buy-in tournament.” He’s an instructor for CardRunners.com and is known throughout most of the online poker world as sbrugby.
Barry barryg1 Greenstein finished Day 1B with 46,500 chips, good for 60th overall. Greenstein won his third WSOP bracelet in 2008 by taking down a $1,500 buy-in Seven Card Razz tournament. He also finished sixth in the $50,000 HORSE Championship for $355,000. He’s cashed in that event each of the three years it’s been offered at the Rio. Greenstein took home his first bracelet in a $5,000 buy-in No Limit Deuce to Seven Draw tournament in 2004. He’s a member of Team PokerStars Pro.
Adam A_Junglen Junglen (pictured at left) finished sixth in Event 1 of the WSOP Europe, a £1,500 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament. He cashed for £28,598 in that tournament. He’s a former winner of the PokerStars Sunday Million and took third in the European Poker Tour’s Barcelona event for over $260,000. Junglen will look to continue his hot streak on Day 2. Harrington explains his table demeanor: “You would be hard-pressed to find someone that knows Junglen and does not like him. He is a classy guy, and carried himself with the calm confidence of someone that knows they know what they are doing. There is no arrogance there, just a well-deserved confidence in his ability at the tables.”
The reigning WSOP Europe Main Event champion, Annette Annette_15 Obrestad, was knocked out on Day 1B. Her pocket kings were burnt by Marco Traniello's A-Q. Obrestad took home $2 million for the win in 2007.
