PocketFivesLive Travels to the Bicycle Casino for the Legends of Poker

By Dan | Published Aug 24 2006, 07:35 PM

LOS ANGELES, California – On Saturday, August 26, 2006, around 600 poker players will descend on the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, California for the World Poker Tour’s Legends of Poker. Each player will hand over $10,000 for their place in poker history. The final table will be broadcast on The Travel Channel as part of Season 5 of the World Poker Tour. This marquee tournament is the second stop for the crew of PocketFivesLive.com (http://www.pocketfiveslive.com). Providing live coverage of online poker players in the biggest live tournaments, PocketFivesLive.com will journey to “The Bike” this weekend in hopes of seeing an online poker player emerge victorious.

Last year’s Legends of Poker tournament saw poker superstar “Cowboy” Kenna James battle for a prize pool of over $4 million. Also at the final table was poker pro Tim Phan, a 31 year-old from Vietnam. 858 players put up $5,000 to compete (the buy-in has since doubled to $10,000). In proof that poker is an “every man’s game,” a business owner from nearby Van Nuys, Alex Kahaner, playing in his first major live tournament, took home first place and over $1.1 million. Hollywood director Todd Phillips, (Old School, Road Trip) also competed and finished fifth. Past players who have made the Legends of Poker final table have included a veritable “who’s who” in the world of poker: Mark Seif, Kathy Leibert, T.J. Cloutier, Chip Jett, Phil Laak, John Juanda, Gabe Kaplan, Paul Phillips, Doyle Brunson, and Daniel Negreanu have all vied to be the champion of the Legends of Poker. The final table will occur on August 30.

“I expect over 20 of our online poker players to compete in the first World Poker Tour event we will be covering,” says PocketFives (www.pocketfives.com) Chief Editor and Co-Owner Adam Small. “Any online poker player who has qualified for this tournament should register at PocketFivesLive.com. We will provide live coverage of you for your family, friends, and fellow players worldwide, free of charge. Rather than spending time calling each and every person who wants to know how you are doing, have them visit PocketFivesLive.com and we will be happy to show them your progress.” PocketFivesLive was launched in July, 2006, and tracked over 400 players in the World Series of Poker Main Event; 50 walked away having cashed in the event for almost $3 million total. Rob “Rradar” Roseman and Eric “Rizen” Lynch each walked away with nearly $500,000, having placed 23rd and 24th, respectively.

The Bicycle Casino is located in Bell Gardens, California, southeast of Los Angeles. It is home to the Legends of Poker and the World Poker Tour Ladies Night events concurrently. From this location, PocketFivesLive.com will be providing the latest chip updates, key hands, and anecdotes to provide insight into all things online poker. In the coming months, PocketFivesLive.com’s updates crew will be traveling to Atlantic City for the World Poker Tour’s Borgata Poker Open and Niagara Falls for the North American Poker Championship. Other stops include the Bellagio Five Diamond World Poker Classic in Las Vegas and the World Poker Challenge in Reno. “Online players are steadily excelling in live tournaments,” says Small. “It is a completely different game playing live as opposed to on a computer. We will be at each event over the coming months intently following some of the best online poker players in the world as they compete for millions of dollars. Be sure to check out all the latest news at www.pocketfiveslive.com.”
