PokerStars Fifth Anniversary Celebration

By Dan | Published Dec 23 2006, 01:49 PM

This Christmas season, PokerStars isn’t celebrating with a tree or fruit cake. It’s not inviting its in-laws over for a game of Taboo. Instead, PokerStars is breaking out all the stops for its Fifth Anniversary celebration. Through January 2, 2007, you can win big just by playing at the world's most popular online poker room. According to its website, “The 12-day celebration will include Anniversary Hands, Freerolls, even a 25% birthday bonus. We’re giving away more than $500,000 in free cash to our players as a big thank you for making our first five years so special.”

As part of the Anniversary Hand promotion, PokerStars will stop a real money game every 1 million hands and award cash prizes based on the level of play and a player’s VIP status. At the Micro level (up to $0.25/$0.50 limit and $0.10/$0.25 no limit), the hand winner will receive $250 and every other player at the table will score $100. At the Low level (up to $3/$6 limit and $0.50/$1 no limit), the hand winner will receive $500 and all other players will receive $200. In the Medium level (up to $10/$20 limit and $3/$6 no limit), the hand winner will take in $1,000 and all other players at the table will receive $400. Finally, high stakes table winners will receive a cool $2,000 and all other players will receive $800. It’s an easy way to make some extra cash while playing. Even play money tables have a chance to win some cash. If you’re the winner of a play money Anniversary Hand, you’ll receive $50. Anyone else at the table will receive $10.

You’ll also receive a bonus based on your PokerStars VIP status. SilverStar members will receive a 15% bonus on their Anniversary Hand winnings, GoldStar members will receive a 30% bonus, PlatinumStar members 60%, and Supernova members 125%. Every new member of PokerStars starts off as a BronzeStar member and 1,500 FPP’s monthly are required to move to SilverStar status. Here's an overview of the Stars VIP Program:

As part of its Fifth Anniversary, any PokerStars member who opened an account in 2001, when the site launched, will receive entry into one of two $25,000 freerolls. The second and final one takes place on Saturday, December 30 at 8:30pm ET. As an added bonus, any member since 2001 will automatically be upgraded to the PlatinumStar VIP level until the end of January.

Members of Team PokerStars will also be involved in the Birthday Bash as well: “Throughout the fifth anniversary celebration, PokerStars will host five $1,000 freerolls every day with 10 Frequent Player Point buy-ins. We'll also run one $5,000 freeroll every day with a 50 FPP buy-in. There's a very good chance you'll find one or more of your favorite Team PokerStars members in the field of players. If you knock out a Team PokerStars player, PokerStars will award you a free entry to a $215 Sunday Million tournament.” If you don’t have enough FPP’s, there are four free entry tournaments daily as well.

Just to make it easy for everyone to sign up for PokerStars, the site is also offering a 25% deposit bonus up to $150 in bonuses. Play is required, according to the site: “No bonus code is required. To earn this bonus, you will simply need to play on PokerStars and collect the number of Base FPPs equal to 10 times the bonus amount. You have 180 days after your first deposit to earn all the FPPs you need to cash out your bonus.”

So while you’re watching your parents battle it out on Wii tennis or listening to your Uncle Ned tell stories of his days on the U.S.S. Essex, take advantage of this promotion from PokerStars. If you don’t already have a PokerStars account, sign up today!
