Rankings Update: Big Results Mean Big Rankings

By Adam | Published May 24 2007, 12:18 AM

Sorel "Imper1um" Mizzi dazzled us all once again on Sunday with a decisive victory in the Sunday Warm Up on Stars, which had over $700k in the prize pool.  He had the chip lead for most of the later hours of the event, and once again, he made it count with a bigtime win.

Some of you may recall a Sunday not too long ago where Sorel won the $100 rebuy on Stars, took 2nd in the Second Chance $200, and finished 4th in the $200 rebuy.  That incredible day at the tables was relived in some ways last weekend, though his huge wins actually occured two days apart.  On Friday, he took down the FTOPS PLHE event for $40k, and then his Sunday win was worth $109k.  This guy really has a habit of winning these things in bunches, and he's now taken a decisive lead in the pro poll, helping him regain the top spot in the rankings.

P0KERPR033 has moved up one spot in each of the latest two updates, due in part to some aid he's been getting from the pro pollers, who are starting to really recognize his talent.  He's still hanging onto the top PLB spot, but he's also moved up all the way to number 4 in the pro poll.

PearlJammer, Roothlus, and Andy McLEOD each moved up a spot in the top 10, and BeL0WaB0Ve is also once again among the elite group, having moved up one spot after a week that included a couple sizable 3rd place finishes.  Andy McLEOD had the most impressive week of that group, winning yet another huge tournament on Full Tilt for $75k.  PearlJammer had a 4th place finish in the 2nd Chance $200 just three days after taking down his first Nightly One Hundred Grand on stars for nearly $30k.

TheWacoKidd, in between huge cashes in live events, managed to pull off 1st, 2nd, and 5th place finishes in the $100 rebuys on Stars last week---something that even full time online professionals are rarely able to pull off.   While he continued to impress everyone on the live circuit, "Waco" was also able to move up 4 spots in our own PocketFives.com Rankings.

Bond18 is one of the players who's gotten a lot of mention in recent rankings updates, because he's been steadily climbing for a couple months now and quietly becoming one of the better players on the online tournament circuit.  Last week, he managed to pull off wins in the Full Tilt $40k Guaranteed and the Bodog $12k Guaranteed.  The Full Tilt win was just one day after he took down their Sunday Mulligan for over $27k.  He moved up nine spots this week to number 37.

MattSuspect and Asiandude7 each gained 5 spots this week, which placed them side by side in the 40's.  Asiandude7 took 2nd in the same Full Tilt $40k that Bond18 won, and MattSuspect was helped by a cash of nearly $6k in the FTOPS Main Event.  Ch0ppy, meanwhile, moved up six spots to number 50 after a week in which he final tabled an FTOPS event and picked up $21k for 5th place.

There were some pretty enormous jumps in the bottom half of the rankings this week, but none more amazing than a thirty-three spot gain by Aaron "gotcha55" Kanter, which may well be a record on this site.  Aaron's win in the FTOPS Event #1 contributed to part of the boost, but his 2nd place after chopping the Sunday Million was worth 1,028 PLB points, and that huge score, along with a win on UB and a 2nd place finish on Full Tilt helped him move all the way up to number 60.

Stpauli111 and JasonGray sit at numbers 63 and 64 respectively, each having moved up more than ten spots this week.  StPauli's week included a win in the $50 rebuy on Stars and a final table in the Sunday $200 rebuy.  He's already finished 4th in a Nightly One Hundred Grand this week, so look for him to be on the move again next week.  Jason, meanwhile, had an $11k score in the Stars $100 rebuy and took 8th in the UB Sunday $500 last week.

Intervention also had a huge jump of twenty-two spots this week, moving all the way up from number 98 to number 76.  He's barely slowed down since his recent $57k win on Full Tilt, and last week he continued his good run with 1st and 4th place finishes in the $50 rebuys on Stars, as well as a 3rd place in the $100 rebuy.  MrSmokey1 was the last previously ranked player to move up at least ten spots, and he pulled it off largely by winning the Sunday $200 rebuy for $57k.

Recent Triple Crown winner SCTrojans came into the rankings at number 82 this week, and his Sunday was one to remember.  He final tabled both of UB's big Sunday tournaments--the $200k Guaranteed and the $500.  In addition, he took 4th place in the $200 rebuy on Stars.  Earlier in the week, he won $100 freezeouts on Stars and UB and a $10 rebuy on Full Tilt, the three of which earned his triple crown.

Dipthrong also recently won the Triple Crown, and he's also new to the rankings this week.  This high volume player won two thirds of his Triple Crown in the latest rankings week, and then he went on to win a UB $30 rebuy on Saturday.  He also had eleven other final tables throughout the week---incredible.

The last new name in the rankings is SN8WMAN, who final tabled the FTOPS Main Event and took home more than $25k after busting in 9th place.  He also took 5th in the Second Chance $200 that day.

About Adam

I was one of the original P5ers... Before this site existed, my friends Cal, Riley, and I were poker enthusiasts/railbirds who played primarily low stakes cash games and tournaments. We were all fresh off graduating from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, loved poker, and wanted to become a part of the poker world. For years I managed the rankings system on this site and all of the content you would see on the front page. I now am mostly removed from the day-to-day operations of the site and am primarily focused on our company's rakeback business (including the rakeback section of PocketFives). I still take a very active interest in the site, and you'll often see me responding to threads in the forums on topics ranging from how to play AK out of position to what I think is the next legislative step regarding online poker in the US. I live in Escazu, Costa Rica about 5 minutes from our company's office. I primarily play live poker now, but you can still occasionally find me at the online tables, primarily as cassowv on Full Tilt or AdamP5s on Bodog. If you see me around the forums or at the tables, be sure to say hi and tell me how I played my hand wrong ;)
