Rankings Update: ComeOnPhish Reaches the Top 20

By Adam | Published Feb 22 2007, 03:01 AM

Nobody new joined the top 10 this week, but atimos continued his climb towards the top, moving up another spot to number 6.  ComeOnPhish (pictured) was the highest ranked player to move up into a new decile, picking up another two spots to achieve the number 19 ranking.  He's been steadily moving up almost every week, and after a week in which he won yet another tournament on Full Tilt, the jump comes as no surprise.

Rizen moved up more spots than anyone else around him this week, ending up ranked 26th after being in the 31st spot last week.  In the past week, he won a $50 tournament on Stars and had another final table there.

Another name we all know, #1PEN, moved up 6 spots, and mkind16 moved up 7 spots right below him.  The two of them are now ranked 37th and 38th respectively.  #1PEN won the UB $500 this week, less than two weeks after he won $22k in the $100 rebuy on Stars.  Not a bad month of February for this frequent P5s contributor.  Mkind's week included wins in the $50k Guaranteed on Bodog and the $30 rebuy on UB.  He also had a second place finish in the latter.

One more name to mention in the top 50 is busto_soon.  At the time of this writing, he's leading the February Monthly PLB and is in second in the 2007 Yearly PLB.  His week included a number of final tables, the most impressive of which was a win in the $50 rebuy on Stars for more than $13k.  He also took down a $100 tournament on UB.

UGOTPZD made a huge jump this week, moving all the way up from number 90 to number 62.  He's generally crushed the huge tournaments on Stars, and this past week he had several final tables.  His biggest cash lsat week was a second place in the Sunday $100 rebuy on Stars, which was worth $22.4k.  This week, he already has taken down a $50 rebuy for over $14k, so expect another jump next week, though it won't likely be 28 spots!

Phwap moved up 11 spots this week, and he's now brought himself all the way up to number 65 in a very short time.  His move was aided by, among other things, a second place finish for over $14k on Stars in their $100 rebuy.  Another player with recent success on Stars had a similar move not far behind him, and that was Himclip85, who jumped 12 spots to number 71.

Recently, gbmantis reentered the rankings in style, and this week, he moved up 13 spots to number 75.  His win in the $100k Guaranteed on Bodog was just another example of his ability to dominate some of the toughest tournaments online.

New players this week in the rankings were mattster24 (85), TCarrico (91), pbdrunks (94), JohnnyGstaks (96), Martine23 (99), and tork (100).  Out of that group, half have been ranked in the past.  Mattster24 had a particularly impressive week, taking down the Full Tilt $75 on Tuesday and the Stars Sunday $100 rebuy for over $35k.  TCarrico also won a $100 rebuy on Stars earlier in the week, and JohnnyGstaks took down one of the other $75 tourneys on Full Tilt.  Martine23, a long time top player, took 3rd in the Second Chance $200 on Stars over the weekend.

Come back in one week and find out about the latest happenings in the PocketFives.com Online Tournament Player Rankings.

About Adam

I was one of the original P5ers... Before this site existed, my friends Cal, Riley, and I were poker enthusiasts/railbirds who played primarily low stakes cash games and tournaments. We were all fresh off graduating from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, loved poker, and wanted to become a part of the poker world. For years I managed the rankings system on this site and all of the content you would see on the front page. I now am mostly removed from the day-to-day operations of the site and am primarily focused on our company's rakeback business (including the rakeback section of PocketFives). I still take a very active interest in the site, and you'll often see me responding to threads in the forums on topics ranging from how to play AK out of position to what I think is the next legislative step regarding online poker in the US. I live in Escazu, Costa Rica about 5 minutes from our company's office. I primarily play live poker now, but you can still occasionally find me at the online tables, primarily as cassowv on Full Tilt or AdamP5s on Bodog. If you see me around the forums or at the tables, be sure to say hi and tell me how I played my hand wrong ;)
