Rankings Update: Top 10 Shakeup

By Adam | Published Dec 28 2006, 02:58 AM

Two players who have been mainstays in the top 10 for months move up a couple spots each this week.  Imper1um had two Sunday final tables, which helped propel him to the number 4 spot, and t soprano is benefitting from an impressive list of December results that have him in a close race for the December PLB crown.  He moved up two spots to number 6 in the rankings this week.

Just outside the top 10, apestyles, lucky seven, and hoodini10 all showed some upward momentum.  Apestyles had a huge Sunday, which included a 3rd place finish in the $300k on Full Tilt and a win in the $40k on the same site.  Lucky seven has been putting up solid results for years, and he had a nice week that included 1st and 4th place finishes in the UB $35k Guaranteed.  Hoodini10 moved up 7 spots to number 20, as he continues to benefit from the respect he gained after his three $100 rebuy wins earlier this month.

Some others in the top 50 who had noticeable rises this week include mr. menlo, Deuce2High (currently in the top 10 of the December PLB), arbianight, TheWacoKidd, MrSmokey1, RandALLin, four6suited, and #1PEN.  Each of these players improved their ranking by at least 5 spots.

Deuce2High, known on many sites as pwnasaurus, recent won a triple crown and has consistently put up impressive results ever since, including wins this month in the Full Tilt $300 and $100 and the UB $100.  Arbianight, often seen in the big NL cash games, has made it into the top 20 of the sliding PLB (the PLB component of the rankings), and he was helped this past week by a win in the Stars $20 rebuy.

TheWacoKidd has continued to put up dazzling results despite playing a much shorter schedule than a lot of the other top players each week.  He's got a couple nice PLB scores this month, and the latest was a final table in the Full Tilt $300k Guaranteed.  Four6suited's week included a win of almost $19k in the Stars $100 rebuy, which was a big contributor to her jump.

AndyMcLEOD, the most recent Triple Crown winner was another big riser, as is usually the case with someone who has won the TC in the last week.  He jumped up 12 spots to number 67.  A couple other big risers were Hixx and KUSH, who now occupy the 75th and 76th spots.  Hixx had two second place finishes in the past week, one on UB and one on Full Tilt.  KUSH also picked up a 2nd place, and that was in the Sunday $100 rebuy on UB.

New additions to the rankings this week included SirWatts and jimmie23, who each jumped all the way up into the 80's.  UGOTPZD made it in at number 91, and rankings veteran BigRiskky came in at number 93.  Davidp18, who's had several nice wins on recent Sundays, joined the rankings at number 94.  Bond18 was the last new addition, having put up several impressive scores recently including two outright wins this month, the latest of which was for nearly $12k in the Full Tilt $150.

Stay tuned each week for the latest updates on the PocketFives.com Online Tournament Player Rankings, the premier player rankings on the net.

About Adam

I was one of the original P5ers... Before this site existed, my friends Cal, Riley, and I were poker enthusiasts/railbirds who played primarily low stakes cash games and tournaments. We were all fresh off graduating from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, loved poker, and wanted to become a part of the poker world. For years I managed the rankings system on this site and all of the content you would see on the front page. I now am mostly removed from the day-to-day operations of the site and am primarily focused on our company's rakeback business (including the rakeback section of PocketFives). I still take a very active interest in the site, and you'll often see me responding to threads in the forums on topics ranging from how to play AK out of position to what I think is the next legislative step regarding online poker in the US. I live in Escazu, Costa Rica about 5 minutes from our company's office. I primarily play live poker now, but you can still occasionally find me at the online tables, primarily as cassowv on Full Tilt or AdamP5s on Bodog. If you see me around the forums or at the tables, be sure to say hi and tell me how I played my hand wrong ;)
