A Critical Time for Online Poker

By Published Oct 04 2006, 09:49 PM

This week's Podcast features interviews with NROG (National Right for Online Gaming) Executive Director Brian Jakusik, PPA (Poker Players Alliance) President Michael Bolcerek, and an in-depth breakdown of The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act by Whittier Law School Professor Nelson Rose, a legal expert and author of more than 1,000 published works, including GAMBLING AND THE LAW. (1)

When The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 was attached to the Port Security Act and approved by Congress late Friday evening, it set off alarm and confusion throughout the online poker world.  By the time Party Gaming announced it would not allow new deposits from U.S. customers once the bill is signed by President Bush (expected to be signed on Friday, October 13th), there were enough doomsday theories to darken the outlook of even the most-optimistic representatives in the Online Gaming Industry.

As of this Podcast's airdate, October 5th, the general consensus among the majority of privately-owned poker sites and e-wallet services has been to "wait and see".  Although the bill sent an enormous shockwave through the hearts and minds of all Online Poker players, there is still a significant amount of disagreement about its potential impact, even among legal experts (not to mention among posters on our Forums).

Our aim with this week's Podcast is to provide our listeners with as much information, analysis, and expert advice as possible.  Indeed, you'll be hard-pressed to find the amount of resources available at the click of your mouse anywhere else, than right here at PocketFives.com.  So it is with great pleasure that we submit our first Podcast Special: A Critical Time for Online Poker, this Thursday, October 5th, 2006.
