Living The Dream

By Published Nov 07 2007, 02:07 PM

This week's Podcast features interviews with Stephen "Stevie444" Chidwick and Matthew "Plattsburgh" Vengrin.

This week's first guest hails from the United Kingdom and enjoys American Football more than the English version.  Stephen Chidwick is an 18 year old online tournament superstar who's looking forward to trying his hand at major live tournaments across Europe that allow players as young as 18 to compete for millions in cash prizes.  "Stevie444" is also looking forward to the 2008 PokerStars Caribbean Adventure that will take place in the Bahamas.

This week's interview with Stephen focuses on his relationship with his supportive parents, who continue to be amazed when their teenage son occasionally ends his tournament session with a profit of well over $20,000.  Talking with top online player Jon "Apestyles" Van Fleet has also helped Stephen improve his game, and he readily admits that he still has a lot to learn if he wants to reach his personal goal of becoming the #1 ranked online tournament player at PocketFives.com in 2008.

Matthew "Plattsburgh" Vengrin has been a member of the online poker community ever since being cut (in a controversial manner) from the Plattsburgh State basketball team.   After spending a considerable amount of time daydreaming of becoming a big time superstar, Matt found himself near busto and in need of improving his game.  His salvation came when he began talking to top-notch tournament players about certain tournament situations.  However, Plattsburgh's greatest adjustment was probably his attitude.

The past three months have been kind to Matt, as he took down the FTOPS Event #9 $300 Rebuy event for $209,000 on August 15th, got 3rd Place in the PokerStars WCOOP Event #22 for $56,000 on September 29th, and placed 2nd in the PokerStars Sunday Second Chance tournament on August 12th for $27,800.  Combine that with a World Series of Poker final table and a 7th Place finish in the UltimateBet Aruba Classic, and it appears that Plattsburgh could be well on his way to the superstardom he craves.
