$150 NL on Stars

By sheets | Published Feb 08 2005, 09:42 AM
Well this was one of the really fun ones...  First of all, ty to johnnybax for even knowing about it. (He knows everything, so no big surprise....and he also made final table of the Party $150 last night....yawnnnnnnn).

The real neat part of it was that by the time we got down to two tables, I was in 15th out of 18, and I had won 0/6 pots at showdown. Needless to say, I had won 39 pots with no showdown....woohoooo....sliderus maximus.  See, on the very first hand of the tournament I was dealt AQ in middle posiiton.  Now I know all the books like TJ's masterpiece tell me to toss AQ in a full ring, but I was feeling a tad saucy, so I ventured in with a RAISE!!!!!!  (I WAS SWEATING AT THE VERY PROSPECT OF BEING IN A RAISED POT WITH AQ)   Well I got a customer, and although Sklansky's "gap" concept tells me that he has probably KK or AA or even BETTER, I bet at a flop of A 7 2, and got called.  Then the turn came a 6, and I bet and got called.   Then the river came a 4, and I bet and called by AA....oh wait....it wasn't AA after all....Sklansky was mistaken...but it WAS A7....so goodbye half my stack.

Well the remaining 4 hours were spent moving all in whenever I had position or smelled weakness or anything, just enough to survive the raising of the blinds.  I just figured that eventually I would get called and be knocked out.  One time I reraised someone all in when I had AJ, and after the guy folded, Inissint IMed me to ask, "what'd you have?"  I told him AJ and he called me a sick F or whatever....but that was my best hand yet, and was to be my best hand for a long time...(ty "who's bad" for folding, btw).

Anyway, the time kept passing, and somehow, next thing I knew, we were down to 2 tables, and I was still alive....wheeeee....NO ONE HAD CALLED.  (I am not surprised, considering my reputation for very tight play...(trying....to....keep....a....str8....face)) I even folded 77 on the button at one point because I was just POSITIVE that the big blind was sick of me and would have called.  :)

Anyway lightning finally struck and my AJ was called by KQ.  "HOLD HOLD," typed the rooters, and it held...(ty slugo, inissint, sd, jackiowa, jeniccide, etc....wouldn't have held without you)  I won one other coinflip victory, and the next thing you know, I was in first out of 9 and at the final table....having won TWO HANDS that weren't folded preflop.

Well, some bad karma passed over my table, (thanks sd and inissint for getting bax mad) and my AK got all in against the 3rd chip leader's A7....and BANG, I was down to 5th out of 9.  Then I had 9T in the SB.  Everyone folded to me, and I was all in (what else?), and BANG....called instantly by AT and I DIDN'T SUCK OUT!!!!  (wtf....bs....email support)

Well, with only 3x the BB left, I was assisted by Goosewit, who knocked out someone in 7th, and then brsavage obliged me by knocking himself out in 6th....and then I got all my money in with A5 against goose's J9....I think he flopped 8 Jacks and 4 9's, but I am not sure.  I know that the one ace that flopped didnt help.  Goose went on to win, so it was cool that he knocked me out.

Anyway, I thought it was cool the way the tourney developed, and it was a real kick in the ass having my chat back. (for now).
