In Praise of Poker Writers

By Lenny | Published Feb 20 2008, 01:20 AM

Having dabbled in it myself, I know that writing about poker is not easy. Well, let me rephrase that, writing anything about poker worth reading is not easy.  In online publishing, content is king, and here at Pocketfives we pride ourselves on providing fresh quality content to a large audience every day.  I’d like to take a moment to thank the contributing writers who make this possible.

First, I’d like to thank "Seal."  He signed up here on January 30th, 2005 before I did and before 99.9% of the Pocketfives membership.  Since then, he has contributed 57 front page articles that feature everything from cut and dry poker advice to laugh out loud entertainment.  His ESPoker series of blogs in the early days of the site gave me a new appreciation for Seal’s writing. Whether he is making us laugh, or making us think (and frequently both at the same time), Seal’s writing has been a staple of the front page almost since day one.

"Fox" has more front page articles than any other writer on the site. With eighty eight entries, Fox is the most prolific author in Pocketfives history to date.  The amazing thing is, only two of those were written in 2007!  Fox gave us a steady stream of quality content for two years and I’d like to thank him on behalf of the Pocketfives staff and the community as a whole.  His Bankroll Management article is one of the most bookmarked pages on Pocketfives and is a must read for anyone who has ever posted a bankroll question in Poker Discussion.  Fox may have moved his focus to other projects, but his writing has been a major contribution, and we continue to appreciate it.

"Grapsfan" wrote his first article for Pocketfives in August of 2005, and we have come to rely on him for pertinent and insightful commentary on many of the challenges we face at the poker table.  He writes for a wide audience and his articles are both accessible and challenging.  He was won a Presto award for his writing, and he is a frequent contributor both in the Hand Advice and Poker Discussion forums. I certainly look forward to each and every Grapsfan article and I hope to see them come in for a long time to come.

The contributors to Pocketfives are too many to thank individually, and I am not going to begin to try.  I do want to include a few more thank-you's here, because some of the newer contributors like "Assasinato," "AJKHoosier1" and "Bond18" have really brought some great content to the front page.  Our writers have included names like "Rizen," "Green Plastic," "BRSavage," "BeLOWaBOVe" and many others, but big name or micro grinder, we appreciate everyone who writes for Pocketfives.

As we begin the fourth year of Pocketfives history I look forward to learning more about this game I love as well as enjoying the sense of community I find every time I open my browser and point it to Pocketfives.com.   To view archived content on PocketFives.com, visit the Contributing Writers section and the Articles section here on the site.
