After more than 14 months of existing solely as a website, PocketFives.com is expanding into a new form of media---podcasting. We're going to be periodically bringing our users a show that contains discussion of current issues in online poker, interviews with top players and online site representatives, a rundown of recent tournament results, and information about the latest promotions offered by PocketFives.com.
For those of you who are unfamiliar with the concept of a podcast, it is a recorded radio show that is downloadable from the internet. It can be listened to on your computer speakers or stored on your ipod. We've created an "RSS Subscription Feed" for our podcast, which means that users can set up itunes (www.itunes.com) to detect new shows and automatically download them for you. There is more information about how to download our podcasts here.
The show is going to be anchored by David Huber, who posts on the site as dhubermex. He's been a long time contributor to P5s, and he had an article nominated for the "Article of the Year" Presto Award. David has also been in radio since the age of 16, so he brings quite a bit of experience in this field that none of the P5s staff could match. For more information about David Huber, please check out his biography.
I will be the co-anchor on the show, and in contrast to David, I have absolutely no experience in radio broadcasting, but I am learning! My knowledge about the industry and my familiarity with many of the players we'll be discussing and talking to should make me a valuable addition to the show, and I plan to learn more about broadcasting as we go. In the meantime, please don't hesitate to send me feedback about what I (or we) could do better and what we're already doing well.
On the first show, we'll be discussing the P5s Tournament Player Rankings, as well as the ranked players freeroll that is coming up this weekend on Paradise Poker. We'll be going through some of the other standard weekly things as well, such as recent tournament results and upcoming promotions.
We expect the player interviews to be a big hit, and this week, we'll have Eric Haber (sheets) and Shawn Rice (Westtexasman) gracing us with their presence. These are two players who have been winning for years in online poker, and who have found their way into roles that affect others in the industry. Eric is one of the creators of a new site, PokerXFactor.com, which is the hottest new training site for aspiring tournament players. Shawn is a player ambassador for UltimateBet, and he also does some instruction on pokermentors.com. Both of these guys have brought a lot to the P5s community and to online poker in general, and it's great to have them on our show.
For any more information about the inaugural P5s Podcast, which will be released Thursday morning, please check out our landing page for the show. You will find information there about how to sign up, as well as David's blog about the show. I hope everyone checks it out and enjoys what they hear---let us know what you think!
About Adam
I was one of the original P5ers... Before this site existed, my friends Cal, Riley, and I were poker enthusiasts/railbirds who played primarily low stakes cash games and tournaments. We were all fresh off graduating from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN, loved poker, and wanted to become a part of the poker world.
For years I managed the rankings system on this site and all of the content you would see on the front page. I now am mostly removed from the day-to-day operations of the site and am primarily focused on our company's rakeback business (including the rakeback section of PocketFives). I still take a very active interest in the site, and you'll often see me responding to threads in the forums on topics ranging from how to play AK out of position to what I think is the next legislative step regarding online poker in the US.
I live in Escazu, Costa Rica about 5 minutes from our company's office. I primarily play live poker now, but you can still occasionally find me at the online tables, primarily as cassowv on Full Tilt or AdamP5s on Bodog. If you see me around the forums or at the tables, be sure to say hi and tell me how I played my hand wrong ;)
