i've been tossing the idea of getting a coaching session but i am wondering if it is worth it?? i mean i am a winning player i guess with my stats but for the last year i've really just been about break even. i try to look for leaks and i go over stuff with SNGwiz, but i just can't even grind anything up. Im just afraid that im going to get a lesson with a coach and they are going to watch me and in the end just tell me to run better. From anyones experience are 1 year breakeven stretches common or do i really need to re evaluate?

It's hard to say whether a one-year break even stretch is reasonable without knowing how many tournaments you played during that time. If it was more than 1,000 you definitely have a problem, but you I would need to know what buy-in, number of entrants etc to give you an idea how many tourneys would be a reasonable sample size.

As for coaching -

If you play $10 SNG's, and play 1,000 of them per year, fairly typical for a recreational player, then a lesson will easily pay for itself. If your teacher is good they will give you a ton of direction on things to work on and that first lesson might improve your ROI by 1%, which over 1k SNG's at $10 buy-in would translate to an increase in income of $100 per year even if you never move up.

You might move up in stakes and that increase in ROI means much more, and many people will be able to get a much better increase than that.

I know hundreds of players who were break-even players until they started taking lessons and now play for part or all of their living. Getting a coach is def a good thing, and one lesson should tell you whether you have found the right coach or not. Jennifear gets awesome reviews for her SNG coaching, and there are a few other SNG coaches at poker-coach.com that are excellent and charge reasonable rates.

I'm doing coaching & I would HIGHLY recommend it. Having said that make sure you find the RIGHT coach for you needs. I have had 3 & 2 of them were simply exception with the other being good but I simply felt I got more out of the other 2. In any case do your homework in finding a good coach as there are plenty of really good ones.

I can vouch for this....I had my first REAL poker lesson last night with Jennifear (learned from friends and other players @ card rooms for a while before I started playing more seriously).

There are things you do all the time that you shouldn't, things you DON'T do all the time that you should, etc. etc. that until you have a coach go over them with you, you learn so much about your game.

As much poker as I have played, I never thought I was THAT bad (lol) and I have a decent profit line (not a brag, just an attest to say that Jen's coaching will make me THAT MUCH BETTER).

There's so many tools out there that I have tried to understand, she made them so simple to breakdown, and on top of that, how to apply it by replaying hands and SHOWING me the tools.

Now needless to say you don't have time every hand to apply these tools, but if you study enough and learn ranges, you will gain that much more ROI imo.

I'm ridic. excited to "re-start" my poker career after sitting down for just 4 hours with Jennifear.
