How I know people who believe in Hell are faking it.
By bfactor on 05-14-2008 12:47 PM

It's really pretty simple.

Let's say you drive around in a van, and drive around some city picking up random people off the sidewalks, and kidnapping them into your van, and you have somee big underground dungeon with a few dozen chambers, and you put each person into a different chamber.

Then you go to each chamber, and you say this, one by one, to each person, in each chamber:

"Hi.  Sorry to break the news to you, but I kidnapped you, and you are currently in a dungeon cell which you cannot escape from.  I am a professional torturer, and I've decided to torture you all day every day for the remainder of your life.  I will be shoving red hot needles underneath your fingernails, splashing water on your back, and electrocuting you with an electric brush, drilling into your teeth, into the live nerve, without any pain killers, etc for the remainder of your life.  This might be decades.  Sorry dude.  You're one unlucky mofo.  Your life is gonna suck sooooo bad it isn't even funny.  Bye."

and then you walk out of the room (and have a hidden camera filming the person in this room)

I bet all 20 or 30 of the random people you put into these chambers, ALL OF THEM would not just calmly sit there, all relaxed and shit like "Bleh, oh wells...."

No.

They would all be FREAKING THE FUCK OUT.

Like, they would all be running around in their chambers going "OHHH SHIIIT!!!! OHHH NOOOO!!!! FUUUUUCKKKKK!!!! NOOOOOOOO!!!! NONONONOOOOO!!!!!"

etc on and on like that.

They would be totally freaked out about the idea of getting severely tortured by a professional torturer all day every day for the remainder of their life.

Really, they would, this is a normal human reaction to news of this sort.

Now, think about it.  A human lifetime is like 80ish years on avg.  So these guys are running around, totally freaked the fuck out about getting tortured all day every day for a few decades right?

But now let's say you walk around on that same sidewalk.  But instead of kidnapping 20 or 30 random people, you instead walk around and briefly interview 20 or 30 random people (90%ish of which claim to "believe" in heaven and hell).

So you are like:

"Hi."

person says

"Hello."

you say

"So do you think you're going to hell when you die?"

person says

"Yes.  Almost everyone will."

person then calmly <----key point walks away.

Notice anything?

Yeah.  That's right.  The person wasn't freaking the fuck out.

Gee.... that makes a lot of sense...

NOOOOOOOOOOOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT

So when confronted with a few decades of permanent severe daily torture, the person is gonna be running around in circles, freaked the fuck out, screaming and crying and shit, but when confronted with an ETERNITY of torture, and actually worse torture than any torture that could be administered by even the most talented torturers on earth, for not 100 billion years.  Not 3942839042830942 trillion years.  No.  ETERNITY.  FOR FUCKING EVERRRRRRRRRRRRR the worst torture ever forever, the person's all like "meh..."

Yea...

Yea you clearly really believe in it......

I can tell.....

PSSSHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

I CALL BULLSHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

bfactor, i can't wait to you become aware of the fact that there is more to life than a sperm fertilizing an egg, a baby being born, living and then it dying.

i am not sayin there is heaven and hell, or a religious god, but there is more than meets the eye so to speak.

link?

Hitler was a Christian, believed jebus died on the cross for his sins, sounds like he is going to heaven to me or am I missing something?

See, that's the point. Even though he knows what people's choices are going to be (see my disclaimer above!!!), he still gives us free will. If he didn't, we'd all just be puppets. If you were God, would you rather have people trust you, love you and believe in you because you forced them to or created them to do everything you say when you say it, or because you gave them a choice and they chose to do it? Doesn't it mean that much more when it's a choice?

is it really free will if god know what your going to do before you do it?

and if i were god i woulden't create a being that i know would be pure evil and cause nothing but despair and suffering for all of humanity.

and as long as god knew what his choice would be before he made it,  he still created evil.

I'll concur with you on this... God created his beings with the capacity to do good or do evil. He didn't create evil as much as he allowed it to exist for the sake of free will.

btw, ecugirl,

Just outta like... curiosity and stuff...

What do you think about people who were born with SEVERE brain abnormalities that made it quite literally IMPOSSIBLE for them to not act evil.  As in, people who's frontal lobe in their brain was severely deformed, since birth, as well as other parts of their brain, which caused them to:

1.  Have only one emotion:  extreme anger

2.  Have no self control whatsoever over their physical actions, at all whatsoever, thus:

3.  They just run around fighting and murdering and being "evil" all the time, without ANY choice about it, due to their SEVERE physical mental deformity that caused this (not "choice" or "free will")

Is this supposed to be "God's" ummmm... I dunno... "interesting" sense of humor?  Or?

Lol.... sorry but seriously I mean..... you see where I'm going with this right?

Sigh.... I shouldn't have ever brought this up, because now it'll probably spark a whole separate debate, and I don't really have time for it, cuz one of my friends (who is religious btw ZOMGZ!!!! lolz) is coming over today, so I can't just sit all day arguing about this stuff lol, but I just thought maybe you'd have fun thinking about this one particular topic maybe, so I brought it up for you to think about....

I don't know all the answers, for sure. I think this article does a nice job of explaining. Read it if you want.

what i got out of that article was that if you go to hell,  you asked for it.  my question still stands that why would god give satan a realm to tourture souls?

p.s.,  i was an alter boy and went to catholic school when i was a kid,  i would ask question like this and when they diden't have a response, they would punish me. priests could not give an answer so i dought anyone else could.

Lol, sol160,

It's true actually, I did in fact wager that I will state in my will that all my assets and possessions go to him if I every throughout the course of my life change my mind, and believe in the whole god/religion/heave/hell/etc crap.

Imo it wasn't much of a gamble since I'm like 99.999999999999% sure I won't ever change my mind

and since 99.999999999999% is waaaaaayyyy less probable than me becoming a victim of identity theft, with the same ultimate outcome, then in theory I'm ALREADY taking a bigger gamble, just by merely EXISTING (cuz of identity thieves lolz) than I am with taking this wager imo.

Well, ok, I'll give this a shot. First of all, it's not about being "good" or being "evil". Like I said, it's about a relationship. Based on the teachings of Christianity (sorry, have to throw that in there, or someone will think I'm saying that this is indisputable blah blah blah), not one person on earth is "good enough". So, the person's evilness wouldn't necessarily preclude them from being admitted to heaven, since it's not about works, it's about relationship.

The second thing I'll say about it is that I don't think someone with a brain issue they can't help would go to Hell. If you have an IQ of a carrot, then you can't be held responsible for what you do or believe, right? It's my belief that he is just and wouldn't allow someone to suffer needlessly for something they couldn't help.

Some questions are answered definitively for us and others aren't. So this is really one of those questions that we just don't know the answer to yet. Kinda like The Big Bang Theory. Apparently, some of it can be explained, but there are still holes, right? Trust me, when I get to heaven, I'm gonna have a lot of questions for God Smile

ecugirl, google "hitler heaven" and do a little reading, it is clear that Hitler is of your ilk and is definitely in heaven. So you'll have good company and plenty of time for "good" conversation with "good" people.

If I wanted to, I could write a nearly novel-length post about the concept of "where do we draw the line" on the topic I brought up, but it would just make me degen this thread for like 2394823904892384 hours straight, and ultimately it would end up with me and PrestonLuv arguing about why Seattle sports teams are ghey lolz or something weird.

So I'll just give this one a rest for now.  Maybe when I'm in a more fiesty mood I will bring up the "where do we draw the line" argument in reference to this topic that I brought up (and should probably not have brought up, in retrospect... well... at least not in this thread lol)

Ya.

Hitler killed himself, which is a mortal sin, and mortal sins are not something Catholics believe you want to die with on your soul.

Also, by saying definitively that Hitler would be in heaven and around "people of your ilk" as you so pompously put it assumes that you/we/someone could possibly even have a clue about how God judges anyone.  And if you don't believe in God in the first place, then you can't tell anyone shit about how God works.  Cuz ya really don't get the message if ya don't believe...know what I mean?

The flaw in ur example is that in the first example the ppl are told they will get tortured every day for decades from that point onwards whereas in the second example they know its gunna happen but its ages away so they dont care. Peoples level of caring about something is exponentially proportional to how close it is to them in time, therefore 50 years starting from NOW seems a lot worse than eternity but starting in 50 years time. In fact...if they actually think they are going to hell anyway then they will know that even after they get tortured for 50 years they are still gunna get tortured for eternity afterwards so...your 2 examples can basically be simplified down to a) you are going to get tortured for eternity starting from now (obv they would not be too happy about it like u said) and b) you are going to be tortured for eternity starting from 50 years time...which can explain why they dont care in the second example cos at least they have 50 years to do whatever. A more accurate example would be to change the second one to asking them if they think they are going to hell when they die but with a gun to their head - they would probably freak out a lot more i think.

Actually,

I think this was a pretty solid response stevie, to be honest.

If I was arguing against myself, alongside your point about the whole "exponentially more worried about it the sooner it's gonna happen" argument (which by the way my counter-rebuttal would have obv been to look at old people (they STILL aren't frekaing out running in circles crying about Hell), but even so, a solid argument regardless I still think... here would be some of my attacks on my own OP:

1.  I didn't take into consideration that the vast majority of people who believe in Hell don't actually believe they are going there.  This is a big flaw in my OP.  I should have stated in the OP that I was only referring to people who BOTH believed in hell AND believed they were going there when they died.

2.  Your topic about putting a gun to a person's head (although you forgot to put in the polygraph machine into that scenario, which would obv be necessary to make it interesting) imo is actually a more interesting topic/scenario than my own in the OP.

So I actually think you made the most solid post in this thread.

Ty for the input stevie444 (I'm not being sarcastic btw).
