I just started taking BJJ last week and i didn't realize how much work it is on your legs/abs/back. I'm close to where i need to be with my back, but does anyone have some good leg workouts for when i go to the gym? Right now i'm doing press, squats, extension, and calf lifts.
And if you have any helpful hints so that i look like a pro at my next class, that would be appreciated too!

I also just started BJJ last week. Also, I went to a Muai Thai class and kicked more in a 1.5 hour session than i did my entire life. That nights sleep was filled with horrible cramps and tossing and turning.
Just curious, how many people are in your class? and how much you paying a month? Mine is 75 and there have been like 6-10 people in each class.

You want to work out your hip flexors a lot, as this will help with hip strength, and leg squeezing (used a lot in keeping a closed guard, as well as escaping side control back to guard).

Here are some good ones I do:

Lay on your back with your hands under your bum.

Then:

1.  Do leg scissors, side to side, for 1 minute.

2.  Immediately switch to holding your legs at a 45* angle for 1 minute.

3.  Back to scissors for a minute.

4.  Break

Repeat this same exercise, but instead of holding at 45*, do leg raises for the middle minute.  Then do it again but do egg beaters with your knees up for the middle minute.

It really works your lower abs a lot too, but is also good for your hip strength.
