You want to work out your hip flexors a lot, as this will help with hip strength, and leg squeezing (used a lot in keeping a closed guard, as well as escaping side control back to guard). Here are some good ones I do:
Lay on your back with your hands under your bum. Then: 1. Do leg scissors, side to side, for 1 minute. 2. Immediately switch to holding your legs at a 45* angle for 1 minute. 3. Back to scissors for a minute. 4. Break Repeat this same exercise, but instead of holding at 45*, do leg raises for the middle minute. Then do it again but do egg beaters with your knees up for the middle minute. It really works your lower abs a lot too, but is also good for your hip strength.
