Breckenridge, CO legalizes weed/anyone over 21 can have up to an oz

DENVER — The Colorado ski town of Breckenridge has voted overwhelmingly to legalize marijuana.
Early returns Tuesday night showed the proposal winning with 72 percent of the vote. The measure would allow adults over 21 to have up to 1 ounce of marijuana.
The measure is largely symbolic because pot possession remains a state crime for people without medical clearance. But supporters said they wanted to send a message to local law enforcement to stop busting small-time pot smokers.
The vote comes as communities nationwide are struggling with how to enforce pot laws at a time when medical marijuana has surged in popularity.

Wow this is awesome. Hopefully this gets the ball rolling in the right direction. I don't currently smoke for the exact reasons that cizastro stated, but this is still exciting news.

Like the OP says though it's till largely symbolic because weed is still illegal. As long as it's illegal on the federal level it will always be illegal. As far as getting the medical card so you can smoke cizastro. Be very careful because most employers aren't gonna give a shit about that card when you piss hot. You need to read all the rules and contracts to the letter. If you had to take a piss test and there was alcohol in your sysltem you would be in trouble and it's legal. Oh, and as far as Breckenridge goes, the cops will just charge everyone under the state statute.

Yeah, I'm not going to go look for a medical card.  But I would like it to be legalized at some point.  This seems to be a great first step in the right direction.  I value my job and livelihood way too much to gamble with a card, so I'll wait until it inevitably becomes legal.

I'm just hoping the wait doesn't take another decade.

Could they really fire you for testing pos. for marijuana if you have a medical card?  I can't imagine that anyone would be fired if they tested positive for opiates but had an OxyContin prescription...seems like an expensive wrongful termination suit waiting to happen.

Possibly. Who knows in California though. I think one of the main reasons they test is to see if you may be on something while at work. Like I said if you tested having booze in your system while at work you would have a problem so what do you think they would do with weed? I think it would be a hard sell, also, to a company's insurance carrier (which is really why testing is done) to keep a person that had weed in their system, card or not.

The difference, of course, being the medical aspect.

Alcohol is not prescribed as a medicine.

If you have a medical prescription to take marijuana for pain or anxiety or whatever, then it's the same sort of thing as if you had a medical prescription to take oxycodone for pain, or valium for anxiety etc.

It's sort of like, if they found oxycodone in your system and you didn't have a medical prescription for it proving you were taking it for medical reasons, then they would obv fire you, since oxycodone, like marijuana, is an illegal controlled substance which is only legal to own/use if you have a medical prescription for it.  However, if you did have a medical prescription, and were thus taking it for medical reasons, they would not be able to fire you for that.

Thus, with weed, the same way, if it was medically prescribed you shouldn't be able to get fired for having it in your system.  Only if it wasn't prescribed to you would it be okay to fire the person for it.

(the catch of course, is that marijuana is illegal even for medical prescription usage by the federal government, unlike oxycodone, which is legal for medically prescribed use at the federal level, so this might be problematic in court or whatever, but whatever, can't be held down by the man obv, fight the power etc etc lolz)

I doubt that a UPS driver is going to keep his job if he tests positive for marijuana, even if it is prescribed.

Yeah I see where you are coming from but it's still weed. And insurance carriers are still suits.

edit:  lol I was too high on oxycodone, ironingly, to notice that your post said "marijuana" and not "oxycodone".  Sighduckjalifjsae09fuaefklad

I guess thats sort of the problem with weed...certainly one of the problems they'll have whenever it gets legalized nationally...i don't know of any test that can accurately and scientifically measure whether or not someone is actively baked in the same way a breathalyzer can measure your alcohol intoxication level.  Not that baked driving is equivalent to drunk driving, but both should clearly be illegal and idk how police could test someone the pulled over on suspicion of DWH.  Same thing with employers: going to work high is clearly not acceptable but I dunno how you test for it
