OMG am I tired. That was quite the experience. I give all the credit in the world to my beautiful and amazingly strong wife. Women are truly tougher than guys and it's really not close.
Here's the run down:
Our baby is 7 days past the due date so our doctor schedules us to be induced on Friday the 6th at 10:00 am. We get there on time but the process doesn't start til 11:00. Our doctor tells us to expect it to take 10-12 hours because on average you will reach 10 centimeters dilated one centimeter per hour.
That didn't happen for us. She was at 6 centimeters by 1:00 am and around that time we both tried to catch some sleep. At 3:00 am we are awoken to about 10 doctors and nurses in the room putting oxygen on my wife and checking the baby's vitals. The baby's heart rate dropped significantly and set off a code red or however they call it. After a bunch of pokes, prods and a multitude of tests, it was clear that our baby was alright. Scare # 1.
At around 4 in the morning, my life started feeling some really painful contractions. This lasted til about 6 and she was at 7 centimeters, the doctors decided to take her off of the Pitocin and let her body due the rest. Pretty quickly I objected to this decison because I noticed from the baby monitor that her contractions were quite less severe and basically had reached an abeyance. The doctor disagreed and my wife stayed at 7 centimeters for the next 3 hours. Finally, she agreed to start the Pitocin again and quickly my wife had reached 9 centimeters. It took another couple of hours until she reached 10 and then the pushing began. This is what separates the girls from the women and the men from the boys. The pushing process is freaking intense and you see some sick shit. I have to give my wife and myself some props because we stepped our game up and handled that shit like champs.
My wife was in the pushing part of labor for a little over two hours. I would of fully supported her calling it off and getting a c-section but she wouldn't have it. She pushed and pushed and pushed and after a long while our baby's head appeared. Unfortunately, no matter how hard she pushed and how far we spread her open, that baby wouldn't budge. That's when scare two occured, the baby's heart beat crashed and her oxygen leveled ceased. Four of us spread my wife's legs open, she pushed like no other and two doctors was pulling on our baby. Finally she emerged but the doctors were yelling it was a shoulder birth and the baby wasn't breathing. I was so proud of my wife but terrified at the same time. My wife, Megan was so drained, injured and drugged that she didn't realize that our child wasn't doing well. Thankfully we had a whole team of doctors and nurses in the room and they immediately got Lyla breathing and shortly after they realized her shoulder injury wasn't severe.
26+ hours of labor was no joke and physically and emotionally draining. I just got home and I stink, have barely ate and slept maybe 2 hours. But you know what? I don't care my wife and child are healthy and strong and I'm a very proud husband and father.
I'm gonna pass out now so I can get back to the hospital in the morning. Thanks everyone for your kind posts, really appreciate you guys. More pics will follow soon when I get some time. ps. Pocketfives was blocked on the hospital's firewall but pokerstars wasn't. I played a bunch of DON's for the first 12 hours and made some decent cash.
