I'm not sure there is much advise to be given with the amount of detail you have provided.  Just find a lawyer, tell them the details, and get their professional opinion.

It actually is related to my hospital stay and something they've put in my permanent record that is very very damning and very very inaccurate. I'm beside myself.

I've talked to several attorneys already. They don't have any interest in taking my case, even though I've been done a terrible disservice, because they don't see it as a money-making proposition for them. How sad.

Well, libel or no, I don't know what it's called, but there's now information about me in a permanent medical record that is false and could potentially be devastating to me if it gets into the wrong hands.

Private practitioners are not going to take your case unless it will be worth their time financially. Why is that sad?

Try to see if there are any patients' rights groups you can contact.They might have staff attorneys who could represent you or possibly put you in touch with outside counsel they know who might be willing to take your case on a pro bono basis. Good luck.
