Not counting sicktight311, were either of these two the best of all time, and if so, which one was better?

I love Nirvana, but as a guitarist, Cobain couldn't hold Jimi's jock.

What's the point of saying "which one was better"?  Like most cases in music, it comes down to preference and whether your individual ear likes one thing or another.

I know we're talking about electric guitar, and especially that related to rock, but there are other "guitarists" who are in some way on the same level with my favorite of these two, Hendrix.  For example, just listen to some Diego del Gastor, or even some Tomatito, and you'll see that there is a lot to the guitar that neither of these could even fathom.

Only guitar player who could play Jimi with any justice.  SRV and Jimi make me feel bad to pick up a guitar cause I'm not giving it any justice playing it at all.

Prince is fucking pathetic. Nothing compared to Hendix.

I feel the need to mention Zakk Wylde, that man could jam along side Jimi any day. He fucking rips.

Clapton, while not god and far inferior to Hendix IMO, kicks fucking ass. He's a bad ass.

Anyone ever wants to cut heads on a real fucking guitar for money, i'm down. I'll pwn some mother fuckers. I'm talking real guitar, not guitar hero video game bullshit.

That being said, music shouldnt be about competition. Thats why we play poker. Music is about self expression and sharing your talents and feelings with the world. Its not about competition, though many think it is and treat is as though it was. I lost the best friend I ever had because we were so competitive with each other as far as playing guitar went, and someone said i was a better guitarist than he was. He quit playing, quit being my friend and just couldnt cut it. Thats what being competitive will do to people when it comes to music.

That being said, Im still down to cut heads. I'll fucking pwn you all.

fucking john mayer. what a little bitch. i hate him so bad. If i ever met him i would say "hey arent you Stevie Ray Vaughan?" of couse he would say no. "thats right. youre not Stevie Ray Vaughan, so quit trying to sound exactly like him you unoriginal dumb fuck."

I once saw john mayer play mary had a little lamb on late night with conan obrien, he played it just like S.R.V., note for note. fucking joke. douche bag got a record deal way too fucking early. when he first came out he sounded exactly like Dave Matthews, now S.R.V. Sure, musicians tend to emulate those they admire and as a result, tend to sound like them. But only when they have trancended that, and they have developed their own sound and style, do they deserve to share it with the world and get a record deal. FUCK JOHN MAYER.

this thread is hilarious.

clapton isnt even top ten in his genre. hell there are a decent number of better blues guitarists than him around if you are strictly talking guitar skills. (they are dying off though so hurry.)

hard to pick JUST ONE though due to personal tastes varying among those choosing. i cant even get a top 20 list going so i stopped. ...slash was not on it though.

Kurt couldnt play guitar at all from a technical standpoint.  None of his songs are hard to play or present a challenge for an intermediate guitar player.  No way should Kurt or Jimi be compared to each other.

If you want to compare Kurt to another guitar player compare him with Jack White.  They are both severly overrated as guitar players.

No love for Dimebag in here?  I see Kurt Cobain but no Dimebag.  P5s does not have any musical knowledge.
