Not counting sicktight311, were either of these two the best of all time, and if so, which one was better?

SRV, Hendrix...most blues based players are not great technicians...but playing guitar is so much more then that.
Technicians are guys like Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Buckethead, and Joe Satriani....Great and super fast players but no where near the level of a Hendrix or SRV.
Slash is a good rock guitarist...but no where close a legendary player.

The only guitarist alive today who comes close to Hendrix is Prince.
I love Slash's work, but I would rank Eddie Van Halen and even Marty Friedman from Megadeth above him.

umm, once Clapton quit drugs and drinking... he was less than average....
Clapton is NOT God... he's not even top 10.

EVH is definitely a better guitarist than slash, that's pretty easy to say.
as far as clapton being overrated..well..if you dont think so, you've never picked up a guitar.

Eddie van halen > basically everybody but DEF slash. Kinda laughable that this is actually a thread.

LOL. HU guitar duel for rollz? HONESTLY u obv have no clue calling eric fking clapton overrated. Somebody call slash and ask him if he thinks he is even in the same fking atmosphere w/ clapton and he'd probably laugh and be thankful his name is even mentioned with slowhand. You honestly have to be leveling me here.

I'm sorry, but Clapton is overrated. I used to think he was great when I was younger... but its all hype. His best stuff was 65 - 73, then he sobered up and plain sucked. He's not ground breaking at all and frankly, although I like some of his stuff, he's ordinary.

Im not sure how you can even try to compare the two - I absolutely love Slash, and GNR is probably my all-time favorite band, but Jimi totally transformed the way the instrument is played. All of the contemporary players that have been mentioned exist bc of what Hendrix did, and I'm sure any one of them would tell you that. Although a lot of his playing may not be all that tough to replicate as compared to some of the sickos mentioned (Vai, SRV, etc), it was incredibly groundbreaking at the time, and he may be the most important instrumentalist of the 20th century.

Oh, and saying Clapton is overrated is laughable - Honestly, when I was younger, I didn't get what all the fuss was over his playing, until I saw him really jam live, and heard the From the Cradle album. He's an absolute monster.

kinda laughable that u think "slowhand" isnt overrated.

SRV one of my all time favorites. IMO Derek Trucks, Warren Haynes & Kenny Wayne Sheppard are some of the best out there today.

Know who always reminds me of Hendrix? Kurt Cobain. Seriously, look at the similarities
Both were from Seattle
both played left handed
both died at 27
both were very raw and aggressive
The huge impact they had on music in their time
They both had that true spirit of rock and roll you know. Like.... just that deep down feeling you know. anyone else get that? Seriously, Hendrix and Cobain. Cobain - Hendrix reincarnated? | | Speaking of people who are overrated - Kurt Cobain. People compared him to John Lennon after he offed himself and now someone compares him to Hendrix.
In 30 years, new generations of fans will still be buying music by Hendrix and Lennon. They will have no idea who Kurt Cobain even was.
It's like comparing Shannon Hoon to Elvis.

i think thats pretty presumptuous.
Cobain may be outselling hendrix 30 years from now, i wouldn't bet my life against it.
And never again take shannon hoon's name in vain. Didn't elvis not write a large majority of his songs?
