Not counting sicktight311, were either of these two the best of all time, and if so, which one was better?

first of all, jack white is good, hes original, i enjoy his music. He does not belong in the conversation. Slash does belong in the conversation, but not at the top.
i think factoring in originality as well as overal musicianship, the list looks like this.
Jimi SRV Paige Van halen Slash meolla(dude from rage, while not technically great, he transcended rock into the future)

LOL @ comparing Kurt to Jack White. You've obviously never listened to Jack White then. I would rank JW in top 10 all time.
Watch youtube vid posted at bottom of page for verification start to finish. I gaurantee after watching that vid u'll never compare JW w/ KC ever again.

91. Warren Haynes - Allman Brothers Band, Gov't Mule

Wow he can play a slide, awsome. So can't thousands of other guitar players. I have listened to many White Stripe songs and unless he has some hidden talent he hasnt used in any of his songs hes an average player. He overuses powercords, and this is comming from a metalhead.
Sorry but he is overrated. Here is a real guitarist and was of the best until he was shot in the head 5 times on stage. He is still better than 95% of people on this list.

lol @ jack white being in the top 10 all time!

ok ok maybe top ten is a little too much but he is definitely way better then Kurt Cobain. I would put KC in the same category as Billy Joe from Green Day.
Also DB^^^^^^is awesome.

Kurt Cobain is not a great guitar player.
Kurt Cobain was an AMAZING song writer.

Niether one of them are in the best of all time catagory.
I don't think you can put one up aginst another for a comparison. Stylistically they are miles apart. But If I were to guess I would say Slash is probably a technically better guitar player. He had a lot more diverse group of musicians to listen too and learn from then Jimi did. Jimi came from a pretty stright blues based back ground. Slash had that plus all the rockers (like Jimi) plus all the metal and fusion music that came out after Jimi was dead.
I'm not saying Jimi couldn't have done all the things that are being done with guitar now but when he was alive he was not.
Jimi however is a much more influencial guitar player then Slash will ever be. He was an inovator and set the standard for rock and blues guitar players of his time.
Que Tak3 being a cock in 3.....2......1........

" Niether one of them are in the best of all time catagory."
im going to go ahead an assume you are really really drunk if you think Jimi Hendrix is not in the best of all time catagory...
technical skill does not always make a good guitar player either...i know a few kids who can basically play anything thats out there...TECHNICALLY they are great players...can they write a song? fuck no!
|
|
|
You can assume anything you want.
I'm not drunk and I have a very valid oppinion on this as I have palyed guitar my whole life gone to music school to specifically study guitar and spend countless hours EVERY day listening to guitar based music. And not only rock I am very well versed in knowledge in ALL forms of guitar music including Classical, Jazz Country, Blues, Metal, Rock and Fusion. Not only do I listen to all of these styles but I can play all of these styles to.
And I am saying to you and this community that Jimi is not one of the best guitarist of all times. There are many many gutarists that came after him that have way surpased his ability. It's not an opinion it is a fact.
As I said in my first post Jimi is one of the more influencial guitarists.

go listen to Yngwie Malmsteen you geek.
Jimi Hendrix is a fucking legend...
you seem to not understand that technical ability does not make you a good guitar player..
