i have never felt so worthless/sick/upset/angry/devastated in my life. i looked, it isn't there, i know where i had to have dropped it. i know $1700.00 isn't baller but it's what i could afford, it's the one she wanted and it was in my pocket ready for the proposal. my girlfriend is crying, but not tears of happiness. tears of my boyfriend is a fucking moron. i was looking forward to posting celebratory pictures tonight. fuck my mother fucking life.

/killself

EDIT: Asked her anyway tonight while watching fountains in our room @ Bellagio, she said yes (weeee!). Pics to follow this week. Thanks for your comments, I appreciate them, thanks for letting me vent. As far as a ring goes, will be working to get another one and til then we will have to find something. RingPop?

Tim Lock:
Side note/ethical question:

How many people here would turn in this ring if they found it on the casino floor?  Also, does it matter if you happen to be running really good/bad at the time?

His best hope is that the person that found it had clear morals, which makes this a legitimate question.

As for the OP, I really hope it turns up soon.  I think your best chance is that someone has it right now and is sitting in his hotel room debating whether to keep it/sell it or not.  Hopefully he/she will make the right decision and you'll be getting a call from lost-and-found soon.

I'm rooting for you in the handicapping pool.
i'd turn it in, but unfortunately who's to say who may have found it - he lost it in one of the worst places you could lose a diamond ring - his best bet may be checking area pawn shops and seeing if he can find it and buy it back for less than he paid for it

or maybe even call a local news station and see if they'll run a story - they'd eat that kind of thing up and who knows, maybe someone will come forward or at least help you try to find it

here's to hoping you get lucky and whoever found it turns it in! glglgl

Just a quick question - but why did you put decimal points in the dollar value?  Is it to make it look like it was a $170,000 engagement ring when we looked quick?

Even if I was down 5 figures for the weekend, I would turn the ring in.

Might be a flyer, but I would try calling the pawn shops around town, if someone pawned it off for quick cash, you may be able to recover it for less than you originally paid for it, would be cheaper than a new ring...and they might even cut you a better deal if you tell them the story, as long as they still make a slight profit.

If you lose your wallet you contact the police. Can you do the same for the ring?

I mean if you have the recipt to prove you really did own it. That way they can inform the pawn shops to keep an eye out for it. I dont know I am just asking if that is an option. Anyone know?

oh and fwiw, i turn the ring into security every time, i couldn't live with myself if i didn't. but that's me. and i'm sure some ppl are thinking, "no, you wouldn't." but yes, i would. recent case in point: i was at a casino here and was getting ready to go home after having a losing night. stopped to use the restroom before leaving and in the stall i find a cashout ticket for just over $500 in the bathroom. looked at it, thought about how easy it would be to stick it in my pocket and go cash it in, but then knew i would be eaten from teh inside out with remorse and feeling shitty about things if i did. so off to security i went and right when i got there, some lady came up to the desk crying and asking if someone had turned in a $500 slot ticket.

anyway. point is MAYBE someone will be honest, even though they prolly won't :(

also, my bro's girlfriend is THE GREATEST. and i have not always been close with her or even friends with her--- but over the years she has proven again and again that she loves my brother unconditionally. if you knew my bro like we knew him you'd know how this incident is making him feel like shit, and watching him hurt makes her hurt, which is why she's crying. no one should assume she's mad at him or "needs" a ring.

i love my brother and i love his fiancee and i know they'll get through tonight and forever very happily.

ugh--your family is running so bad right now :(

i hope you get it back--call the police IMO if you didn't yet

if you have a girl that is crying b/c you're upset, you have a winner at least--times like these prove what matters, and you clearly have love which fwiw is worth so much more then anything monetary.

glglgl i'm praying a good samaritan finds it

fwiw, i turn in the ring all day everyday, i could never live with that--jewelry is sentimental especially a ring

if i found cash or a cash voucher, i doubt i think twice especially if i didn't see someone drop it

i'm really, really bad at reading timestamps btw, i thought this was tonight when it was last night. but ya, apparently my brother and i loaded up mounds of bad karma in a past life or something, because i can't think of too many terrible things we've done in this one :p

i just talked with him on the phone and he sounds like they're both dealing with it okay. frustrating that the casino won't even bother with the tapes. i mean, i understand, i guess, but still rawr.

i don't understand...they have rooms of people watching security tapes makes no sense not to be able to call one of the 50+ people watching the videos to rewind and watch a few min worth of footage to hopefully find what is worth more then all the money in the casino to them.
