I find the people freaking out saying "OMG guys, they might be under 18!!! Call the Sheriff!!!" quite amusing. If you were born in just about any other time in the history of humanity that would be your mate and/or wife (actually she most likely wouldn't be a 9 or a 10 and sometimes you'd be lucky if you got to choose). In many places in the world today as well. The theory of law that has evolved into statutory rape was created to protect the father and his property from having to pay dowries and take care of little bastards. Now that humans have longer life spans we can put a taboo on that and freak out...but go back in history even a relative small amount and flip out and you'd be a nutball without much of an argument.

I can understand your point to a degree...However, your logic is extremely flawed in that many things are done differently in this country when compared to the rest of the world for good reason. Should we adopt honor killings because another country does? Should we adopt a 35 hour work week because another country does? Also, I'd like to think we've evolved as a race (humans), and therefore can now use our intellect and judgement to determine that people under a certain age are to varying degrees incapable of making sound decisions and are often subject to exploitation by those who are older/more mature. While we cannot protect everyone from themselves, in general I am happy that we have decided as a culture to preserve the innocence of our youth (not Abercrombie) based on the idea that they cannot protect it themselves.

I am not advocating any position (if some chick came on to me and I found out she was 16 that'd be a deal breaker personally), my point is just that if you put that opinion in perspective of humans' time on this planet, you are in the vast minority. My aversion (and everyone else's) to underage girls is a very new, culturally developed taboo (yes that rhymes). If you were born at another place or another time there's a overwhelming chance you'd feel quite different about the situation. Traditions and shorter life spans cause this practice to be common since other people don't have the luxury to freak about about 13 year olds. That's all, put the american flag waving away..thanks =).
