My Father and cancer

Not sure if this allowable by p5's rules and whatever but my dad is starting a chemo treatment at the end of this month and as anyone knows its quite expensive..I will be paying for a lot of it, but cant take care of it all as a lot of my money is not liquid.

Anyone looking for a tax write-off donation, or just a good karma donation if you could contact me for info or if you like to do it anonymously contact the State Bank of Southern Utah. I believe the fund is Dean Porter Fund..

Also, any ideas to raise money? A poker tournament? I dont know..kind of at a loss for words, this is  all happening so sudden.

Sorry if this is against p5's Terms of Service mods feel free to delete if so

Thanks

You must have a circle of friends who play poker... perhaps organise a poker game round yours - $100 + $50, for example.

Other ideas include sponsorship for other activities... maybe a half marathon or bike ride or something.

GL with your dad man, must be tough to go through that.

Devin,

Run a benefit tourney on PS.  Post about it here.  Do it like we did for the Buckinator memorial fund.

The buyin was  like 10 cents and the rake was like 9.90 and the 9.90 was given to the bukinator fund. Get in touch with PS, they will help you work it out.  I will bet that you will get a lot of support from the community to come out and play it.

Add some bounties, etc... make it a good time.  I still have the email from when we chopped the final table of that tourney.  I won 6 cents... best 6 cents I ever won in a tourney.

GL and best wishes to your Dad,

-J

Hey man, i feel your pain, my sister just finished her last chemo on Monday, and we are all relieved its over, hopefully ur fathers treatment goes just as well - There is a big Cancer Walk in two weeks here in chicago and between my family and my family's friends we have raised over 10K for the American Cancer Society - It is a tough battle but the best thing to do is to make sure everyone is positive about the situation, that makes everything go alot smoother than it normally would..... I was actually thinking about organizing a private tourney on stars where maybe half of the winnings go to the Cancer Society, but I am not sure I will still do this, we have already raised more than we anticipated which is great. If you do something like this let me know and I will get as many players as I can to participate, if not, let me know however else I can help.

This is a terrible disease and everyone needs to join together and help in trying to find a cure.

GL, my prayers are with you and your family

GL man, My mom beat cancer last year, and is battling another disease right now called pulmonary fibrosis...which in most cases is deadlier then cancer....

not only are the treatments expensive, but the disability checks dont come anywhere near paying the bills.  I wish u the best of luck with everything, and if u take these guys advise, and have a tourney on stars, i will def play in it...

Hell let's do a $5+5 and a $50+50 with some nice added prizes online. That way everyone can play, and we could raise a nice chunk of change.

Best wishes to you, your dad, and know that this is absolutely beatable. It is going to be rough, it is going to be painfull, it is going to be unbearable at times, but it is absolutely beatable.

There is no such thing as terminal cancer, especially with proper care and early treatment.

Your dad will be around for a long time to come.

TC, I am very sorry to hear this.  As you are well aware, tremendous strides are made with treating cancer and I am sure your dad will add his name to the increasing list of survivors.

Post on here if you do a tournie on PS, I would play for sure.

Yeah my dad was diagnosed with brain cancer in November.  He went through normal chemo which didn't work.  He is doing a "experimental" chemo right now.  Even though its labeled as experimental it has been 70-85% effective over thousands of trials in treating people with brain tumors.  We got a scare though when the insurance company said they wouldn't cover the cost of the "experimental" chemo.  It would have costed $7,400 per treatment and the trial run was at the very least 4 treatments totalling at least $29,600.

Fortunately for my family through the appeal process we got the insurance company to cover the treatment.   My father is also blessed to have many close friends who called us and told us that they would be willing to give us the money if we needed it.

I suggest reaching out to close friends and family.  It is a very humiliating experience to have to ask people close to you for money for something like that but I'm sure for all of you that if a close family member came to you in need for money to treat cancer you would all shell out anything you could afford to help them.

the idea about the poker tourneys mentioned above are great  you could do a couple of smaller buyin ones, the $5+5 lenny mentioned and i believe jester spoke about the .10+9.90 that was done for Buckinator on pokerstars.  i think those would do great

also consider, online auctions of poker memorobilia  there are enough ballas and people w contacts that you could get some autographed pics, etc that people could buy from ebay

golf tourneys are a great way to earn $ for charities

if you set up an account on stars for those tourneys  i will gladly donate my time to do request threads of hot chicks  for $3 a poster will get to select a subject and i will post 20 pics of that person whenever i am notified by the holder of the account that funds are received, i will make the post

I like these ideas slugger.  Once I decide what I want I'd buy a NSFW thread.  Also I'd really like the memorabilia thing.

Does anyone know how to set up a website to accept donations?
