great question IHUDL!!!!!!!

didn't check that out yet but probably will later.
did he really commit suicide? if he indeed chased the vulture away and the child made it to the feeding station, was his depression a result of seeing (and recording) images that i can only imagine were much more graphic than this one?
i really don't think these photojournalists are in it for the money. it's not the most glamorous of lifestyles and certainly isn't one of the safest, cushiest job in the world. the are almost constantly in danger whenever they go to these war-torn countries. while i think it would be a very interesting and eye-opening career, i don't think i would want to see those shots that never make the magazines or win the pulitzers or garner these people their millions of dollars...

It's a pretty interesting and shocking picture IMO, the fact the photographer committed suicide makes it even more tragic
If something like this doesn't make you cringe a little inside nothing will

The photographer ended up killing himself for two reasons - #1 because he was depressed about what he say in Africa (his friend got killed there, children starving etc...) the #2 reason was because he was flat broke. He won the pultizer prize less than three months before he committed suicide.
edit: Also, apparently photographers were told not to touch any children such as this because many of them are diseased....

here is some of the suicide letter...this pretty much sums it up:
"I am depressed ... without phone ... money for rent ... money for
child support ... money for debts ... money!!! ... I am haunted by the
vivid memories of killings & corpses & anger & pain ... of
starving or wounded children, of trigger-happy madmen, often police, of
killer executioners...I have gone to join Ken if I am that lucky."

ok, so this may be a bit distasteful, but this reminds me of a joke.
How many ethiopians can you fit in a phone booth? All of them.
Seriously, that is a disturbing pic and a disturbing thread. As always, i will continue to donate my fantasy football/baseball winnings to the less fortunate. Id suggest everybody due the same.
