Some brief words about the OT party

First: BGX is a very cool guy and did an incredible job.  It's been said a lot already but it really can never be said enough.  We all owe him a debt of gratitude for the hard work he puts into making OT what it is.

Second: ess286 is just about the nicest guy in the world.  I was just blown away at how cool he was.

Third: Willywoo and Admiral are fun to watch together.  Great dad, great son.

Fourth: kidrockin is funnier in person than he is online, but he told me I was funnier online than in person.  Together we are... two old guys at a party.

Fifth: Meeting wowswift and Mr. Sideburns was as thrilling as I had hoped.

Sixth: resilient gets it.

Seventh: LL2 brought his A-game.

Eighth: Adam told me his deepest darkest secret that I will not repeat here.

Ninth: I was really happy when Sweetness saw me and said, "What up dog?" until I realized he calls everyone "dog" and had no idea who I was.

Tenth: LeftyMark is a welcome addition to any group.

Eleventh: mathclub should just move to the US forever.

Twelfth: I don't think Waco is real.

Didn't he leave with a hooker?

The party was amazing and bgx did a great job getting everything together. Just a curious question though-

Where does all the extra money go that was made from the wristbands? I remember him saying we needed 65 to break even and im assuming there was well over that many people there. Bgx could keep the money for all i care for all the hard work he put into making the party as great as it was but was just wondering.

BTW, I give the full seal of approval to each one of those points Underdog made (except the part about me getting it), which marks the first time in history that we have agreed on ANYTHING...  underdog is a good man, as were all of the guys at the party, solid crew....

What extra money?

It's 65 people to break even on the original cost of the place and all the food.  Each person that showed up over the 65 I needed cost $91+ 20% gratuity+ 8% tax for a total of $116.  The remaining $34 x 14 people left $476.  I tipped the bouncer and the bunny and had about $275 left over.  Oh, and I also had a 3% fee for using my credit card as a deposit which brought that number down to about $150.

I then bought the bottle at the Voodoo Lounge the next night with the leftover money and refused money from everyone there.  So trust me, I lost money on the deal.

Is that a good enough explanation?  I can give a class on fixed vs variable costs if anyone would like.

If anyone on here thinks they can do a better job and would like to run it next year, be my guest.  You can deal with the stress of having to worry if we're going to get at least 65 people so you don't eat a shitload of money that was reserved on your credit card.

I had a blast meeting everyone and enjoy taking care of everything, but again, to anyone thinking it's a quick way to make a buck, think again.  You can gladly do it yourself and see how it goes.

EDIT:  If this was a a serious concern and not an implication of some sort, I apologize for sounding like a dick.  I just know that there are people out there worrying about this stuff without knowing what it really takes to get it rolling.  It's also why I shouldn't say "I need 65 people to breakeven" because people get the wrong idea and assume there are no costs above and beyond, when in fact variable costs kick in after I hit that number.

P.S.  Thanks for the words, Underdog.  It was great meeting you and I'm looking forward to meeting up with you when I make it out to the West Coast for work.

Lighten up dude.

I just read my original post again and i have no clue where you got the idea you were being attacked or accused of anything. It was just a simple question out of curiousity and you obviously took it the wrong way. Great job putting everything together, was an awesome night and thanks for taking the time to put it on. Ill shut up now and never ask such questions again. thank you

The answer wasn't directed at you personally.  I know there are people out there who wonder that stuff.

I take it that way when you ask the entire forum in the OP, like there's someone out there who would know what happens to the money other than myself.

No offense.  I'm sitting at an airport after an all-night and it's the first thing I read. At least 3 other people asked me the same question at the OT party and it's just very frustrating when you know that there are people worrying about that sort of thing instead of just having a good time, especially when you just put thousands of dollars on a credit card and spent a shitload of time leading up the party, during, and after making sure everything went smoothly.

Again, no offense.  It's just a hot button for me.

Man that would have been like the 6000th thing on my mind at the OT party.  Wtf is wrong with people.  Bgx is the shit and anybody thinking this was some kind of money making scheme he assumed a lot of risk with this.  Not only could people bail on him (which happened with last years party) and leave him short on money, but having a bunch of drunk idiots that could do a damage at the Playboy club that would be charged to your card must be a little stressful.
All I can say is I hope Bgx will have a part in next years OT party and my early vote is to back up to Voodoo.  Man I love that place.

It amazes me that anyone would wonder this for a second given how solid of a person BGX is.  Well said Lefty.

I wasn't even there and I would have shipped some dough if he had not broken even. I can't believe anyone would actually sit and wonder if he made a big profit off of it. I hope I am never, ever in a situation where I'm that sickeningly anal about money.
