every doctor you ask will tell you that it is unhealthy and unnecessary. Everyone here seems to love conspiracy theories, but I bet they are telling the truth on this one. If you have functioning kidneys and a liver I think you are good to go.

If your interested in taking steps in improving your overall health I'd suggest to eat a ton of vegetables and a moderate amount of fruit. These contain antioxidants which stop the process of oxidization in your body, preserving the vitality of your organs. Also I strongly believe that foods rich in omega 3 fatty acids are the best things you could ever eat. oily fish such as tuna, salmon herring mackeral sardines, trout and sablefish are loaded with omega 3s. Omega 3s have been proven to reduce cancer growth, increase memory and improve brain function, prevent heart disease or at least lower the risk by a ton, prevent arthritis. This alone might be enough to get you to start eating more omega 3 enriched foods. Studies shown that people living in japan are 60-70% less likely to get depression as oppose to people in other countries such as usa or germany, this is directly due to the amount of fish the japanese consume
good post, and the above is a much more healthy path to trying to "detoxify" your system than the master cleanse or anything related to it.

I don't see what the big deal is...once people realize this is just a cleanse, not a diet. If you are using it to lose weight, you fail. If you are using it to cleanse yourself, it is good. I have a bunch of friends at work who have done it after they quit smoking, and it has seemed to make them feel a lot better. It is basically just water weight anyways. But it is a cleansing, not a diet.
There is no evidence that maple syrup + lemons = body cleanse. There is more evidence that it does harm to your body. Your friends probably felt better because they just quit smoking.
edit: I will say one good thing about this cleanse and other cleanses is that it does take a certain amount of dedication and willpower to only drink lemonade for a few days or however long. That combined with the fact that these people genuinely believe they are being cleansed of toxins might convince their mind that they are doing something healthy and in return might provide some feelings of well-being and self fulfillment. ^^^So this. People keep talking about this being a "quick-fix." If someone is using it as a quick-fix then, yeah, its not a good idea and isn't going to work. But if it is used as a starting point for a more healthy lifestyle then it can be incredibly beneficial.
I don't know about the effects of the lemon juice and syrup or whatever on the body because I don't subscribe to the actual "cleanse." But I think people are overestimating the negative effects of not eating for a few days on the body. When I fasted for 7 days there were barely any negative effects and tons of positive effects. There was no doubt at the end that I was better off physically and mentally.

No way I'm ever fasting in this lifetime. I don't even think there is really any benefits from doing it. I mean what is fasting really supposed to accomplish? No good nutritionist would recommend to somebody that they abstain from eating food for a long period of time.

your not though, you provide your body with enough calories each day (about 650). So your not burning muscles. I'm more interested in breaking a cycle of poor eating and lifestyle
don't do it bro. just go to a gym. this is the easy, unhealthy way out.

There are some youtube videos about the master cleanse. You can really notice the people have lost a shit ton of weight. The weight is just gonna fly back on when you start to eat normal again. This just seems retarded. I'd be worried about long term health risks this could cause me.

I did it for 10 or 13 days last year and it was awsome. Feltincredible by the end of it, taste and smell was incredible and evensight. My eyes were bright white, skin clear, lost all physicaladdiction to caffeine, never slept better since I was a kid.
I don't know if it is healthy or not but made me feel like a god damn super hero.
.........everything said in this post is also true. And I FT'ed the double duece on day eight or nine of this thing too. My sense of taste and smell was unreal. And by the end my ability to focus was sick. Which is why I played such good pokerz.
See? Plus, for the guy that quoted me and showed the picture of Gandhi...how old did he live to be?

Show me the evidence that this does more harm for your body. I just want to see it. I worked for a nutritionist in Vegas, corner of Wigwam and Pecos for anyone out there, and he put plenty of his clients on this before changing their diet. The products are all highly alkaline, anyone who knows anything about nutrition understands your body runs better on an alkaline diet. Lemons (organic), Grade B maple syrup, and cayenne pepper are some of the most alkaline foods you eat. People seem to think that they're drinking the lemonade they get out the fountain machine at mcdonalds, the stuff with added sugar. If you do this cleanse correctly for 10 days the products alone will run you 200+ and I hope none of you guys are using Aunt Jemima's maple syrup.
FTR I have spoke with a lot of people about this and everybody said they felt good and recommended it, except one lady who just said it wasnt necessary. I talked to a guy about 25-30 that said the cleanse got him off his meth addiction. It's true the cleanse puts your body in a catabolic state where muscles wont grow, so if you like your physique don't do it, but I am pretty sure call it 99.9% that it does detox. After the cleanse you will gain weight back fast, but the creator of the cleanse recommends people become vegetarian when finished cleansing.

Wrong, no Doctor would put someone on this diet, but their specialty is diagnose and prescribe drugs. I know personally three Nutritionists that put clients on this.

btw, the original thread is here: http://www.pocketfives.com/poker-forums/13/The-Master-Cleanse_2800_Finished-day10_2900_-3211765
to summarize: 1. this isn't good for you. your body isn't getting the nutrition it needs. 2.
your body doesn't get rid of toxins within the digestive tract. you do
get rid of some toxins, but those toxins are the ones stored in your
fat and, by releasing them too quickly, hurting yourself. 3. any effects of euphoria and the like are identical to those you would feel by fasting. 4.
the whole idea of "cleansing your colon" is bogus; your colon doesn't
absorb nutrients (that's a function of the upper GI tract, including
the small intestine), so the idea that your colon isn't absorbing all
the nutrients it could because of this supposed waste that builds up is
bogus. 5. you're killing the helpful bacteria in your colon with the salt water flush. 6.
you already have organs in your body dedicated to cleansing your system
of toxins. you're not going to outperform them by drinking maple syrup,
water, and lemon juice.
