and my recent laments that I no longer get to watch one of my favorite sports (sumo) on account of not living in Japan, I'm wondering what class of athletes you guys think would be successful if they made the transition.
I've often wondered why the NFL doesn't get kickers from rugby/converted soccer goalies... you know, things like that.
Or why Usain Bolt isn't lining up across from Randy Moss.
Or why we don't bring sumo wrestlers across to be linemen/hockey goalies
American professional leagues tend to pay better than a lot of the less popular sports here that are bigger in the rest of the world... it just seems like maybe we should recruit more top-class athletes in those sports to make transitions, and I'm wondering
A. if you think this idea is insane, and B. where you think your most likely targets are

1. Usain Bolt to WR/kickoff returns... He's got the body to go with the speed. 2. Lebron: He could def be a TE in the league 3. Antonio Gates to the NBA.. He was a helluva inside presence in college
No way Mcnabb b/c he is too old to play NBA now and whoever says Tiger is just plain idiotic.. yes he is the greatest golfer in the world but let's not confuse being a top tier athlete with being a golfer (and this comes from a golfer) I am sure there are others but those are my top 3
Edit: and noone that doesn't already play bball can play bball... PERIOD

Going by how they perform at Rugby Union and Rugby League, I'm surprised it seems only Pete Carroll has figured out that the world's most abundant source of strength athletes is the Pacific Islands.
Really, if the scouts bothered to look, hardly a lineman in the NFL wouldn't be from there.

Tiger Woods is the best athlete in the world. He could easily be a star NBA/NFL player. No doubt.

There are a lot of professional athletes that have the physical attributes to be successful in more than one sport. The thing is, to play at the top level there must also be a level of skill that was developed over years of playing the sport.
So a person who is a top sumo wrestler probably could have been developed into an excellent lineman in footaball. He would have the size, and strength, as well as an desire/willingness to train, and he must have enough body awareness that he can execute techniques. However, you couldn't just take a sumo wrestler and put him on a professional football team. He'd get crushed because he never developed the proper techniques.

You're right, I was an idiot to think that someone being in a final four meant they would be successful as a pro in that sport. Sorry about that.
No problem. Don't be such a dumb shit next time.

Rugby athletes dominate football players... And Lebron would be the best 2 sport athlete ever if nike didnt have his nuts in a vice... Also Iverson would of been solid in the NFL
