1. Not our soldiers and government employees-- the Thrift Saving Plan has considerable investments in Big Oil and the profits benefit their retirement. 2. Not teachers-- The National Education Association, largest teacher's union, has considerable investments in Big Oil and the profits benefit their retirement. 3. Not Firefighters-- The International Association of Firefighters has considerable investments in Big Oil and the profits benefit their retirement.
4. Not Law Enforcement-- National Union of Police and Prison Officers has considerable investments in Big Oil and the profits benefit their retirement.
5. Not Blue Collar Workers-- The AFL-CIO, the world's largest labor union, has considerable investments in Big Oil and the profits benefit their retirement.
So who is it that is complaining about Big Oil making profits? Oh, it's politicians that aren't getting their "fair share".

are you some left wing hippy that doesn't have a clue about business.
what do you do for a job exactly??
and i'm still waiting to see what these 'profits' are as a percentage of what it costs to make those profits.
i think i'm being leveled.
I r happy with companies making money. i wish more had freedom to do so.

I guess you're smarter than hundreds of Democrats in Congress? They don't agree with that statement at all.
Them berating oil execs is like a parent making a kid stand in the corner then asking them why they aren't cleaning their room. Just the hint of production from ANWR and off the coasts of Cali and Fla would undercut the speculators and drop the barrel price back under $100. Imagine what beginning actual construction of new refineries would then do.
"Oh but it will take 10 years" yeah that's what Bill Clinton said 12 years ago. The Democrats are mostly to blame for this, but so are the Republicans for not standing on their principles and hammering this through back when they had the political capital to do so.

yawn.
1 - show me that any big oil company has been making unreasonable profits over a sustained time.
2 - if you don't like the products price, don't buy it, stop being a whiny little girl. | |

I don't want oil to get any higher, but I think it's hit a sweet spot where people care enough to do something and look for alternatives (buy smaller cars, hybrids, take public transportation, car pool, etc) without being so high as to bankrupt people. But I don't have a car now and take public transportation to work every day, so maybe i'm looking at it from a privileged and heartless position. Plus I'm up a decent amt of money with some oil stocks...canadian oil trusts FTW. 6 million barrels per day under the low and high resource cases,
respectively

What other product that is used on a daily basis has quadrupled in price in 6 short years? It's tough to budget for that.

I don't know about great depressions and whatnot, but if you don't think the escalating gas prices are going to adversely affect anything beyond dirving a few miles, then LOL at you. The prices of EVERYTHING will continue to go up as a result of rising fuel costs. This combined with lowering average wages is clearly a bad signal.
Also, stop acting as if Oil is just like any other business.
