CEREUS
By Cmac on 07-24-2008 8:58 PM

Well, it looks like they are finally moving in the right direction. There is some hope for me actually having a third site to play on now, that is, if they have new software that is impossible to cheat through. Now they are only a few apologies, pressed charges, and refunds away from having a new member. Will those of you that left like me, return for CEREUS?

Cmac:

I understand it is in UB's best interest to prevent the cheating, and they are trying to fix this, this CEREUS seems to me to be the first step in the right direction. I guess the only two questions I have about this move are:

1) What happens if someone has an account on AP and UB?

and

2) Does this software make cheating impossible in the same way that Full Tilt's does?

If you have an account on UB you can still play on UB.  if you have an account on AP you can still play on AP.  However, you will not be able to play on both brands at the same time, for obvious reasons.  As for 2, no software I don't think makes all forms of cheating impossible but the systems for handling hole card information are similar to Tilts meaning the hole cards are not accessible in real time. I am not a software developer but my non software developer understanding is this.

What happens when 1 person has a name on AP and sum1 else has that same name on UB? What happens then? Who gets to keep the name?

That is a really good question...let me try to find the answer out to that.

pokerstars removed all ability to see hole cards by the time they hit beta, so apparently there is no way to see hole cards in real time.  any site that didnt follow this method as well was simply begging to cheat their players.

annie duke:

But honestly, that would be really hypocritical of me since I know the management in place, Paul Leggett in particular, are not cheaters

I just have an awful lot of insight into who actually did the cheating and it was not the people who run UB today.

Just a little confused by your wording.  You constantly mention UB is no longer being managed/ran by cheaters, but make no mention of the ownership, who seem to have been the ones behind the cheating in the first place.  Could you make it clear what kind of ownership interests the people behind the cheating might still have?  How about for the people behind the AP cheating?

So to clarify:

Every player is allowed up to 2 accounts with CEREUS? One on each platform. These two accounts however, will be unable to be opened or playing at the same time? The lack of ability to see real time hole cards is what I was referring to. Thanks for clarification.

And what if you have the same name on both-- does that get goofy?

p.s.  Thanks for keeping us up with the info annie.

Altria Group, Inc. (NYSEMO) (previously named Philip Morris Companies Inc.), based in Henrico County, Virginia, is the parent company of Philip Morris USA, John Middleton, Inc. and Philip Morris Capital Corporation, and is one of the world's largest tobacco corporations. In addition, Altria Group, Inc. has a 28.7% economic and voting interest in one of the world's largest brewing companies, UK based SABMiller plc. It is a component of the S&P 500 and was a component of the Dow Jones Industrial Average until February 19, 2008.

On January 27, 2003, Philip Morris Companies Inc. changed its name to Altria Group, Inc. On March 30, 2007, a spin out of Kraft Foods subsidiary (publicly traded since 2001) was concluded through distribution of the remaining stake of shares (88.1%) to Altria shareholders. As a result, Altria no longer holds any interest in Kraft Foods. On March 28, 2008 a similar spin out of Philip Morris International was completed with 100% of shares being distributed to Altria shareholders.

And yet, despite the name change - the cigarettes they manufacture and sell still causes cancer.

Straight from wikipedia

B. cereus is responsible for a minority of foodborne illnesses (2–5%). It is known to create heavy nausea, vomiting, and abdominal periods.

Apt name IMO

Well, I for one am glad this merge took place as it will be better for us as online players. Ub has promised to get agressive with the guarantees and I think with the volume this will create that will be happening soon and the wait to fill up many of the tables will be lots faster with the added volume.

This is one main step Ub is trying to do to give you a better poker site. I am glad this step will be over soon so much of the much needed additions can now be made. I don't want to get into all the details as this leads to "when is it coming?" and it will come once it's been well tested and done correctly.

It really makes me sick to see Annie come on here and get bashed when I think we are all very lucky as online players to have a lady like this in our corner. She has done so much for the game we all love including fighting congress and trying to get bills passed for the betterment of all of us. The best part about Annie is a side very few get to see, It's that her kids mean everything to her and everything else is a distance second. I have much respect for Annie on all levels, As a person, as a poker professional and as a friend. It's nice being able to have a voice in the poker world where decisions you make often are for the good of many many players. It's very rewarding at times to know you are helping others in this business. We all do this because we have a deep passion for poker and it's often fun for us.

I, Like Annie, Totally understand if you have no desire to play UB or AP and respect your opinion. I myself would love to see Ub become a site that truely listens to it's players and does what it can to cater to their players needs and wishes. I love dealing with the people behind the sceens that have this same inner passion to help create such a site. I feel Ub is really trying to do what they can to achieve this goal.

This forum is great for poker and it's great that you can come here and voice your opinion. I have been a member of pocketfives since the start and this is by far the best poker forum on the net. Adam and Cal have done a super job over the years.

Trust me when I tell you that Ub management reads these forums too because they want to provide a better product for all of us. It's in everyones best interest.

Best of luck and flop'em dead

Just set up a heads-up game for the whole bankroll and nick of the two players and voila ;)

Seriously... It could be fixed by prefixing conflicting names with the brand name like
AP_Nick and UB_Nick. Then you give the prefixed players the ability to change their nick and lock the original nick. After one of them changed the nick the original nick should be unlocked.

There should also be a way to communicate with the person you conflict with of course.

That way the players can solve it whichever way the want and should keep them happy. It would cost a bit of development time though i guess.

The cheaper solution would be to just let the oldest registrated player keep the original nick, prefix the newer player and give the newer player a possibility to change his nick.
