The better you get, the more you realize that your skill only allows you to reduce the amount on 'human-generated' variance...i.e. misplaying. There will always be a natural variance in poker, it is absolute. (wonder if that constituted a pun b/c of AP superuser...anyways)
At that point it is a game of volume. If you are the type of person who sattys into bigger events as a way of 'taking a shot' it is obv. different than a guy with a BR who can just buy in like you would for a $11 mtt.
Step 1: Learn the game to the point you have an edge
Step 2: Increase volume
Step 3: repeat.
The obvious anomoly would be a guy like Menlo, who is just so sick it goes beyond any kind of human rationale. But you should get my point
