i would guess this be the optimal way for myself to deal with such a long layover which such big money on the line.

I'd take 300k and bet on myself to win when the odds are most favorable.  As long as you don't go out first, it won't seem like a lot of money because the payout is so steep this year.

Hire a bodyguard IMO 

why bet on myself? if i win i wouldn't care anyway...
