Would you say something to the dealer here?
By dtools22 on 07-25-2008 6:56 AM

Ok I was playing live at Foxwoods this past weekend playing 4/8 limit holdem (obv brag baby) and I was getting my ass rivered every big hand.  I was stuck about $210 at this point, oh well that's poker, then this hand came up and it kinda bugged me.

I was in the BB 5 limpers to me, I look down at AK so I raise, all call.  Flop comes down:

868 rainbow

I have a pretty good feel on the table so I put out a bet to see what's up.  Two guys call.  I put first guy on a draw and second guy on a baby pair.  Turn:

2

I check, both check behind.  River:

Q

I check, EP bets, next guy folds, I then say out loud, "I think I had you until there." and I fold.  Guy in between me and the raiser said "AK was no good, I had 44".  Now there was no show down so there is no reason for him to have seen my hand so I then say, "Who said I had AK?"  He then gets pissed at me saying, "The dealer flipped up your hand moron."

Now I decided to just let it go, even though I 100% had a case to call the dealer on flipping over my hand without the right, but I figured that it would just look kind of petty.  I left when I hit the -$250 mark on the session and as I said my goodbyes to the friendlies at the table the guy looks at me and goes, "Why not just rebuy fish?"  I just smiled and walked away.

Aside from the fact the the guy's hand doesn't matter since he folded before it got to me, I was pretty irked by the whole thing.  Now my question to you all is, does anyone here call the dealer on flipping over the hand or do you guys just let it go.  I know this isn't really all that important, but it's been bugging me for a few days so I wanted to ask.  Thanks for the replies.

"Now my question to you all is, does anyone here call the dealer on flipping over the hand or do you guys just let it go."

Absolutely....if this is how it actually went down.

You did not call the bet, therefore your hand should have been immediately placed into the muck by the dealer.  There are always 2 sides to stories, and by no means am I saying you did anything different, but HOW did you muck?  Did you throw your cards in the air?  You say you didn't see the dealer show your AK?  Could the player have been lying about the dealer showing the hand and he was just being speculative?  Some dealers don't know when a hand can and cannot be shown.  I'd guess that if the dealer didn't show the hand, he/she would have spoken up for him/herself.

Also, here you say "Guy in between me and the raiser said "AK was no good, I had 44".  Where did any raise take place other than your preflop raise?

Many players are very careless with their cards when mucking them.  They'll throw their cards to the other side of the table and often wonder why the cards flip up.  Had you slid your cards to the dealer towards the muck, then you'd have seen what the dealer actually did with them.  It is the player's responsibility to make sure the dealer puts the cards into the muck.

Tips are pooled at Foxwoods so it's a pretty small amount that you are actually stiffing him on but still you could go and do that I guess.  You could say something but not knowing how you flipped the cards a and lot of times if you flip one card up by mistake they'll flip the other one up.

And for the record if you are rolled for it, play the 5-10 half kill game at Foxwoods instead of 4-8.  Way juicier and I find the play to actually be worse than the 4-8 game.

"Why not just rebuy fish?"

I Wouldve Come Back Slapped Him In The Face With A Gasoline Soaked Towel

And Lit His Smug Face On Fire

how do you assign exactly a draw to the first guy and a pair to the second with such certainty, you must be good.

Think I would have mentioned something to a floor person by asking if you misunderstood the situation or if the dealer made an error. Soft sell it a bit but get your point across.

i would definitely say something to the dealer... not angrilly or get the pit boss involved or anything like that.  it's no big deal, sounds like you left soon after and arent likely to run into anyone there ever again.  but the dealer should know he needs to be paying more attention.

All I needed to see was foxwoods, they are the worst dealers I have ever seen.  Slow, lazy and smug.  The worst part is they pool thier tips so it even if you stop tipping the tool he just gets a share of the other dealers tips.

If, while mucking, you accidentally or on purpose showed anyone at the table your hand while they were still playing theirs, then everyone has a right to see it.  Occasionally, cards flash when thrown into the muck.  If that was not the case, and the dealer actually showed the hand to the table, you should have called a floor person and the dealer should have been punished.

Sry for no reply until now, I can't log on at work (LAME!!!!!)  At any rate here's some answers to gaps I left in the story.

The cards never left the table.  I simply pushed them over to the dealer then looked away.  There is no chance someone else saw the cards or that I flashed them to anyone.  Also, the guy was not angle shooting as there was another player next to me who was a decent guy that said the dealer had turned it over.

As far as reads, this was 6 hours into the session with these guys, I had picked up a few things and I was reading damn good, still somehow managed to lose $250 too...ugh.

That happened to me at the Beau Rivage a few months ago, and I said something to the dealer, who gave me a curt reply.  I let him know my dissatisfaction by abruptly not tipping him, after tipping him at least a buck or two for winning pots.

In that case you should have definitely called a floor person.  Dealers cannot ever do that.  Sorry you had a lousy session, but that's really beside the point.

It was more the fact that the pot was so small, I don't think it broke $40.  Combined with the fact that I was losing it just seemed petty to me to argue about that.  Now thinking about it I regret not saying something.

I'm just more curious am I supposed to call the floor over and complain or not.
