I was searching for a thread on EV but I couldn't find one so I decided to make a post. I was wondering if someone could explain EV to me. I'm not a dumb player...I know what it means ....But could someone please tell me how to use EV to help factor in on decisions at certain hands, points in MTT & SNG's....maybe an example of a situation...ect...Anything that would help me analyze a hand even better....I know I'm prolly not soundin very clear...but an overview of EV would be lovely.... if someone could help me out I would really appreciate it......I'm just tryin to better my game the best I can...the more I knowledge I can tackle will benefit me immensely.

Thanks And Much Respect,

Jay

If you want an indepth explanation read "Theory of Poker " 29.95

But here is WarCrimes watered-down version.

EV simply means exspected value.

Whenever your money goes into the pot and your recieving = or > the odds you need to make your hand, or if some one calls your bet and recieve less than the odds neede for him to make his hand your on the + EV.....if not your on the - EV

EV really shows itself over thousands of situations (hands).

i.e.

You hold A10

Flop A-10-4

During the deal the dealer flashes your opponents cards while dealing =)
And you KNOW he has 44

On the flop there is $500 the pot.

You check, opponent bets $25

Odds of making your house are roughly 9-10% or 9.5-1 to hit on the turn

He is giving you 20-1 on your $25 to call his bet.....so even though you know you are behind you call his bet....because it is +EV over many many situations likethis you ll make $$$ in the long run....

Told you it was watered down but if your a player you ll know what im trying to say here
