AP to Admit System Was Compromised

PocketFives just received a phone call from Absolute Poker confirming the suspicions of the online poker community over the past month.  While we need to be vague in this post to respect their wishes, we can say that their systems were compromised, and that they are prepared to provide the details in a statement coming shortly.

Part of the statement will include a plan to refund players affected by this compromise.

We are extremely relieved to hear this outcome, as our most important goal in all this is to see justice given to those who were cheated in this process.  Pocketfives is extremely proud to have played a part in the process of uncovering the impropriety that has occurred. We would of course like to thank all the other parties who played a key role in this process—specifically the folks that have been posting here and at twoplustwo.com.

This is great news for everyone.  Keep your eyes out for the statement.

Extremely Relieved,

--Adam

My guess would be that anyone who played that tournament would get their buyin back.

Great job to those that helped to uncover this crap, a monumental day in online poker.  They will only admit to shit that was uncovered, just wonder how much more is out there.

From "Quiz Show"

"I'm happy that you've made the statement. But I cannot agree with most of my colleagues. See, I don't think an adult of your intelligence should be commended for simply, at long last, telling the truth."

Mark Seif has lost any respect I had for him and has lost all credibility with the poker community.

The amount of $ at stake here for AP is astronomical.  They'll need to single someone out with all this heat on their doorstep if they have any hope of not going under.

The blanket denial statements (as patronizing as they were) were just to buy them some time while they figured out who there were gonna let fry for this.  3rd party investigations are gonna "find" what they want them to find but they now realize that someone actually has to fry (if they didn't from the get go).

Any admission of wrongdoing by AP should not be an attempt to avoid audit. If their systems were compromised they are obligated to identify the impact of this compromise beyond the scope of what has already been made public. and imho, they're not qualified to conduct this investigation on their own.

i'm waiting to see what they're gonna say about scott tom's account observing that tourney... i hihgly doubt they're gonna openly admit much. a 3rd party extensive audit is defenitely needed before they try to inact damage control measures to reduce the scrutiny.

I'm looking forward to this statement, and I hope it is full and complete, including an apology for deceit.

The fact that they intentionally deceived us about knowing that their system was compromised is a far greater offense than having it compromised in the first place.
