Borgata Open Women's Event - MAN Playing!

That's right, there is a man playing in the womans event and he is the chip leader.  How this is even allowed is beyond me.  Whats next, 21 year-olds in the senior event (although it was only 40 at the Summer Open).  What are your thoughts on this.  Let the fun begin!

well him playing a womans event is a little ridiculous, although why is there a womans only event? are woman inferior to men so they need to limit the sex that enters? what about white only events? black only events? they should just get rid of this kind of thing to begin with.

who cares about chopping with her - if she was dieing tomorrow it has nothing to do with the tournament - I feel bad for her condition but shes here to play poker not to find someone to help her out in life - I think its lowclass for her to bring up her disease as a way of morally getting him to chop the tournament

If he is really donating it to cancer why would he just not chop with the woman? Does that not seem ass backwards? And if you were loaded from real estate and someone wanted to chop would you not chop? If you were going to donate it anyway?

If you are grinding it out for a career its one thing. If you are just bored and like to play for fun cause you have a grip of cash elsewhere would you not just chop?

You cant be real

Being rich or poor has NOTHING to do with the poker tournament. Neither does being sick or healthy. Im not saying you cant empathize with her situation, but for her to ask him to chop a poker tournament because she feels she NEEDS the money is improper and borderline beggary. No one says you need to have poker as your career to want to win tournaments and money. Sorry, you have this thing backwards.

I would like to know what some of the top pro's think about this.  It's utterly ridiculous hearing the crap that's been posted on the 3 threads about this so far.  I would love to hear what Annie Duke, who by the way, CHOSE not to enter the women's event at the WSOP in 2004, and instead went on to win the Omaha 8 tourney, because she went after the bigger prize, because she was a professional.  This guy probably parks in "Expectant Mother's" parking spots also - which, by the way, is not a crime like Handicapped spaces would be.  As the beer commercials go - "Men should act like men", watch out for that big falling beer can, loser.

What will he do with the tax credit he must get for donating so much money?  Hopefully he will donate the amount he gets extra for his tax refund back to charity.

i play in a local charity game and was talking (not about this but about womens touramnents) with one of the older ladie plays. she was playing the one that just passed for foxwoods and I basically asked her if she felt it it was a setback to woman as shouldn't they wanted to be seen as equals.

she basically said that while yes, she loves playing with the boys, she also liked people able to converse with other women at the table and thats it fun to do so when she's able to play in them. for her it was more about being able to "play with the girls" which she doesn't often get to do in a male dominated game

This story keeps getting better and better.  Now there is soft-play/collusion involved.  C'mon Borgata, disqualify both of them!

Towards the end of the story:
"Each acknowledged that earlier in the contest Korotki, after hearing from Rowe about her illness, purposely played a weak hand against her in hopes of helping her build her chip stack (she doubled her amount by winning the hand)."

edit - SERIOUSLY? come on. so since she needs the money, that means he is immoral for not chopping a poker tournament? EL OH FCKIN EL

get real man

This isnt an 80s underdog movie, if she NEEDED the money, i doubt playing in a poker tourney is the way to go.

I also seriously doubt she went around shaking hands at every table saying 'How are you doing?  I have cancer.'

But yeah, the guys a dick, because he obviously didnt need the money either.  But here's what I dont get.  There are women's athletic events, there are women-only chess events for cash prizes.  Why cant there be a women-only poker event?  There are enough tournaments at any casino on any given day that loss-of-income doesnt factor in.  And Im sure there's no legal writ of 'Because I Wanted To Be A Dick'.

I think women are sometimes intimidated to come and play live. I think if this makes them more comfortable and willing to later then why not.

As far as he goes. Obv a douche, although in AC I can think of someone doing this just to get extra money and lying about it. In AC anything scandalous is possible.
