So I was recently watching a very profitable pro playing a session of SNG's (6-max), when this hand came up. Is anybody able to explain the math here?
PokerStars Game #19905342439: Tournament #104377586, Hold'em No Limit - Level VI (100/200) Table '104377586 1' 6-max Seat #1 is the button Seat 1: xx (2695 in chips) Seat 2: pro (2510 in chips) Seat 4: other player (1760 in chips) Seat 6: xx (2035 in chips) pro: posts small blind 100 other player: posts big blind 200 *** HOLE CARDS *** xx: folds xx: folds pro: raises 2310 to 2510 and is all-in other player: calls 1560 and is all-in pro: shows [5s Qd] other player: shows [Kc As]
Is this a standard shove?

OBV standard shove to steal the blind from the short stack....he just got caught

maybe he just didnt give a shit since its a sng? no reason to ship your stack to steal 300 chips in blinds

It's close, ICM would help here but shoving with this is profitable vs most players and Q5o probably barely makes it if you run the numbers, i'd shove it.

Um...what?
Totally standard

because the other guy is gonna have to fold a lot. Even when he doesn't fold Q5o still sucks out a decent bit.
When the other player is that short it doesnt take much to profitably shove blind on blind

Here's the Nash Equilibrium for this spot:
| SB |
|
| 70.1%, 22+ Kx+ Q2s+ Q5o+ J2s+ J7o+ T2s+ T6o+ 92s+ 96o+ 84s+ 86o+ 73s+ 75o+ 63s+ 65o 52s+ 54o 43s <<SB's optimal shoving range |
|
| BB |
| 31.1%, 33+ Ax+ K5s+ K7o+ Q8s+ QTo+ JTs <<BB's optimal response | Unless the BB is calling with a ridiculously wide range, which is doubtful, Q5o is good here. The fact of the matter is that the BB is probably calling less often than this, so the pro has more fold equity than this chart shows, and can therefore shove even more hands.
If I am the SB here, I am shipping with at least 70%, and possibly as much as 100%, depending on what I think the BB is calling with.
