i have some rio chips (casino chips) left over from wsop and the cage isnt letting me cash them. i was able to break them down into smaller chips. does anyone know how much i would be able to cash out at one time from the cage without having them run my players card, etc?

yeah actually, they didnt have any record of my WSOP stuff in the computer cause apparently the WSOP uses a separate tracking system than the casino uses. I didnt have my receipts with me because i didnt know id need them, and i was leaving vegas in a few hours so couldnt go get them. so when i go back ill just bring all my wsop receipts and i think everything will be fine.

Just an FYI, if you try to cash in purple more often then not they are going to give you static.
You could sit at blackjack, buy in for 1k, play for a bit, and then cash out but after once or twice odds are someone is going to think you are doing something sketchy and then you'll have whole other problems.
If your buddy is still in town, give the chips back to him and have him deal with it. If he's not, call ahead and explain your situation and bring recipts and whatnot.
But yeah I think the rule is you can't use chips to settle private debt or something along those lines, so technically if you can't show where you bought or won those chips they don't have to cash them for you.

they are essentially "tourney dollars" and your "friend" knew this and basically pulled a fast one on u, he knew u couldnt cash these out. and instead of dealing with it himself he passed them onto to u. gl with this shouldnt be that hard to find someone to trade em with.
lol oh ok. i thought i was at the cage with him, and the lady working at the cage said id be able to cash chips later on, so i just told him to give me chips. thanks for clarifying though your recollection is probably better than mine.
get a life man quit talkin down to ppl . just cuz u had a couple big scores doesnt mean u are better than me, i was tryin to help. u think i dont know what im talkin about yet i was in the same position as u and asked a friend to trade and he did. u got no friends that can help thats your fault not mine , quit getting snippy nerd
i mean when people can't grab a concept as simple as this, there pretty much is only one way to talk to you, and that would be down. He obviously has an idea of the situation better than you but came here to see if any one knew the amount he could cash in without there being hassle, gtfo

lol @ some responses. people w/o a clue who are out for blood thinking jpapola is somehow being sketchy here when he clearly isnt.
same thing pretty much exactly happened to me @ the bellagio (friend who owed me money paid me in bellagio chips, but i only had record of playing tournaments). the difference for me was once i rounded up my tournament receipts and brought them to the cage, they were willing to cash out the chips, even though I hadn't even cashed in a tournament. i guess the rio isn't quite so friendly about it, even though you had a cash. that's the only 'bizarro' part of this story.
def dont accept chips as payment unless its chips from a place that you play regularly at (cash games, table games, not tournaments). the casinos are super anal about this stuff (as they prob should be)
and yeah, idk how much you have but id honestly be surprised if they cash out 3k without checking a players' card. considering when youre standing in line waiting to cash these out, youre mostly surrounded by people holding like $80 in all nickels. i feel like anything more than 1k is gonna stand out, but i dont know about any official 'rules' regarding that.
I gamble at craps more than I should so frequent cashing out happens. All the vegas casinos seem to use 3K as the break point. The staff at Borgata in AC told me the IRS forced them to also start doing the over 3k check for id. I discovered the 3k limit in Vegas by experimenting bringing different amounts to the cage.

If you have between 3k and 10k and want to cash em all at once, playing craps or bj should work, put all chips in rail, show players card, play small for half an hour, then cash out and be sure to ask for color. Now you will need to show card at cage but should have no prob cashing out.
If you have over 10k, you can do the same but anytime you cash over 10k they will send paperwork to IRS will want id and ss number. Not a problem if you got your self in order for taxes at end of year.

As someone who works at a big casino. Ive never heard of the cage not cashing your chips.. Ive never heard of them taking your players card before you cash in. I mean we have alot of big players who play but dont use a rating card and stilll cash in Purple Orange or Grey chips.. Strange. I dont understand it. Give them the chips and get your money. IF they refuse you go to gaming commission.. They cant deny you payment for no reason. As long as chips are real which can be detected in a second.
this is simply not how it works in Vegas... you have to have some kind of casino floor, live cash or tournament record to track the chip/s or nobody will cash it... everything has to be verified (this is when dealing with large chips, as others have said 3k seems to be the break point)
I believe it was Nolan Dalla who got a 5k chip confiscated from MGM (?) a few years ago... a friend owed him money and gave him the chip, he went to cash it with no record of play at the MGM, and they took it... my memory is a little fuzzy on this story, but something very similar happened and it was quite the eye opener... story was all over the forums

since your friend gave you the chip... do have record of his 5K worth of cashing or however he got the chip?
maybe you can make him come with you so he can cash the chip for you
sorry if you already answered this or if it doesnt help at all
but good luck

Take 1/2, put it on black. Take the other 1/2, put it on red. PRAY it doesn't hit green.
Now you've bet enough to cash them out. EZ game.
You know what is coming........ 00
Man you would have to be running HORRIBLE! lol

I have no idea why I'm trying to give an honest answer in this thread, but here goes:
I travel for my job and play poker and pit games in casinos all over the country. I have found that walking up to any cage with $2,500 or less is never a problem at all, at any casino. When I tried to cash (3) 1k chips I was asked questions about where I won them and had to provide a player card.
I have never been asked for any id when cashing 5 ($500) chips, or that range.
If I had the time I would simply go to a few different cashiers in the casino throughout the day until I had all the cash.
It's obvious from some responses in here people are not familiar with that fact that a cashier isn't going to just take $8,000 in chips and hand you hundreds and wish you luck - the casino wants to know how you accumulated that much, and as said by Waco $3,000 seems to be about the number you want to stay under per transaction at most casinos.
