Dont listen to this. Early on people will play all sorts of garbage and its easier to get a stack. I dont know if Id call or fold in ur spot though.

Your raise preflop was just fine.  You'll get the "Don't play anything less than AQ so early" nits in this thread, but your raise is +$EV.

As played, good bet on the flop.

I could make an argument for folding or calling the turn.  It appears that shoving is a bad play because your fold equity is abysmal.

For calling:

It appears that it's 2-1 against you making enough of a hand to beat him, and it seems that he would pay you off on the river if you hit your hand.

For folding:

It could be 5-1 against you making your hand, and if you hit a second pair or another 8, you could go broke to a set.

Tough spot.

I fold pre. only 1500 chips to start first off is a shitty tourny. but givin the situation u should probably fold the turn. if u call ur putting over 1/3 your stack in this early when ur prolly only 30% here to win the hand. in a 3k starting stack i would say a smooth call wouldnt be all that bad but its not 3k lol so fold.

but if ur playing a soooooooted ace u r probably a sooted ace donk and call lol. just saying ur gonna lose a big junk of ur stack more times than not and its just not worth it, esp this early.

You don't get A8s that many times in a turbo sng. And I don't think I've ever seen an sng starting with 3k chips. 1500 is standard.

Folded to you in late position so the raise isn't all that bad.  I might not raise with that hand so early in the SnG, but I don't think it's awful.  C-betting flop when you actually hit part of your hand is fine, esp. considering the low flop.  I would fold to the pot bet on the turn because I don't really like the odds here.  Maybe he's bluffing at the K, maybe he's not.  He can call from BB with so many different hands that contain a K, you can't really justify drawing to an A, 8 or h for a pot bet, especially so early in the SnG.  Not to mention the fact he may have already flopped a set on you, although I think he would have 3 bet from BB w/ 88 or 99.  Main thing is, I don't like calling a pot bet here because it's so early in the tourney.

His line is strong.  I think it's fair to assume you need a heart to win if he is a winning player at these levels, which he isn't.

Bottom line is that you are behind right now and need help to win, and it doesn't look like you're getting the right price.  I fold this pretty quickly.

for me it depends, do u like to save chips until the antes kick in and start stealing? OR do you like to gamble early and get a stack?

Well, it's not really EP, we are in the hijack spot, only 2-off the button.

A8s is a reasonably strong but not monstrous hand for that spot.  You can't really go wrong with it as long as you play well postflop.

you can't evaluate whether it is +ev without taking into account your post flop play ability...

I think it was a good fold.  Your rarely ahead here.  Set of 5's looks like a good possibility.  When he saw the 2nd heart come up, he stopped slow playing and put out a pot sized bet.
