Okay guys I'm sick of thinking I'm still good at poker. I used to be a winning player but times have changed and I cannot adapt like others tend to. What style is working the most these days probably aggresive? Would anyone be willing to help me out and talk through some things with me?

You know what always cheers me up?
No, what's that?
Rolled up aces over kings. Check raising stupid tourists and taking huge pots off of them. Playing all-night high-limit Hold'em at the Taj, where the sand turns to gold. Stacks and towers of checks I can't even see over.

Disipline is key. When you say you were a winning poker player, what does that mean? You were winning for what lenght of time before you were no longer a winning player?

In my opinion, nitting it the fuck up is the way to go.  Variance is low, and with everyone trying to always be aggressive, you still get action when you get the goods.  It's been said before poker is always on a pendulum going back and forth, and I tend to think more passive play letting others bluff their chips, has been working a lot for me.

This is just a generalization, as i'll be the aggressor if everyone at the table is playing tight etc.

What is this movie you speak of?  Did it just come out?

Also love all the hacking of the word "discipline" in this thread.  But to try to answer the OP's queston, I too have struggled to maintain being a winning player, and I've had a larger sample size over 3 or 4 years.  I know that is the point of one of the previous posters asking how tiny is tiny when it comes to your sample size.  As soon as you'd respond 6 months to a year, he was gonna check raise you with "that is too small a sample to draw a conclusion.  You probably just ran good in the beginning.  Variance."  Such stock answers, lol.

Basically I've come to the conclusion that you just need to run better (dare I say, cover your ears PPA, be luckier?).  If everyone is being aggressive, and 4 or 5 people at a table are shoving allin, what does it come down to?  Not skill, that's for sure.

I was going to add this to my post to, but I didn't want it to be too long (plus I didn't feel like being flamed).  But I am glad there is at least one other person out there who believes being a nit nowadays may be the way to go.  Being a "nit" has always had a negative connotation.  Some people would say it to me at the tables as if that would put me on tilt.  But like the previous posters said, poker styles go in cycles, and the best way to play is the opposite of what everyone else is doing.  Stu Ungar was so successful in his day cause he was the original "Kid" playing reckless aggressive at a table full of old-timers who were rocks, and would just sit there shaking their heads as they muck their two pair thinking Ungar had the nuts.  Now everyone plays Ungar's style.  That's why I prefer SNGs, because you can wait for these LAGtards to get knocked out and let the game get shorthanded where your odds of isolating are much better.  In tourneys, especially low stakes, where you're sitting at full tables all the time, it's 90% about luck to get through a huge field.

Don't get too nitty... you will never have enough chips to win a tournament this way unless you get run the ef over by the deck.  BTW I do tend to agree that rocking up may be a good adjustment to th eway the game is played right now, but you still have to be agressive.  Whatever style you choose be it tight or loose, agression is always a key. Most people don't understand the difference between LAG and TAG.  In both you are in there raising, not calling much.  LAG just means your starting hand requirements are looser, not that you are flatting then calling flops.  You are still only opening generally, then trying to put opponents to the test.
