'a lot of people do this'
Well that makes it just fine then. It's been an eye opener that's for sure. Amazing how many 'top internet players' are condoning it and even saying they know of others who do the same.
It's against the rules of EVERY poker site isn't it?

Stars specifically prohibited this type of behavior after the Exclusive incident. Party's terms and conditions aren't 100% clear on the issue though. Here are the relevant sections of their terms and conditions:
(Personally, if it happened the way JJ said, I wouldn't get in a huff about it. Congrats on the win JJ--it is an amazing accomplishment either way.)
5. True Identity and One Account.
The name on your Account must match your true and legal name and identity and the name on your PartyPoker.com Account registration must match the name on the credit card(s) or other payment accounts used to deposit or receive monies in your Account. You are prohibited from holding more than one Account at PartyPoker.com. If you have more than one (1) Account or Accounts in different names, then you must contact us immediately to have your Accounts managed so that you only have one (1). If you have lost your Account name or password, please contact us for a replacement.
18. Disclosure of Account name and password.
You agree to keep your Account name and password secret and confidential and not to allow anyone else to use it. If you intentionally or unintentionally, directly or indirectly, disclose your Account name and password to another person, and such disclosure results in a third party participating in the Games using your Account name and password, such participation may be held valid, and you will not be refunded any resulting losses at PartyPoker.com, regardless of whether or not the third party had your consent or not. The Company shall not be required to maintain Account names or passwords although if you have lost your Account name or password, please contact us for a replacement. If you misplace, forget, or lose your account name or password because of anything other than Company's error, the Company shall not be liable.
21. Forfeiture & Account Closure.
21.1 THE COMPANY RESERVES THE RIGHT, IN ITS UNFETTERED DISCRETION AND IN RELATION TO YOUR ACCOUNT, ANY RELATED ESP ACCOUNT, ANY ACCOUNTS YOU MAY HAVE WITH OTHER SITES AND/OR CASINOS AND/OR SERVICES OWNED OR OPERATED BY OR ON BEHALF OF THE COMPANY AND ANY SERVICES THAT SHARE THE SHARED GAME/TABLE PLATFORM, TO WITHHOLD YOUR ACCOUNT BALANCE, SUSPEND YOUR ACCOUNT, AND RECOVER ANY PAY-OUTS, BONUSES AND WINNINGS IF:
(i) You are in breach of any term of this Agreement;
(ii) The Company should become aware that you have played at any other online gaming site or services and are suspected of fraud, collusion or unlawful or improper activity;
(iii) You have "charged back" or denied any of the purchases or deposits that you made to your Account;
(iv) If you become bankrupt or analogous proceedings occur anywhere in the world.
21.2 If after a Security Review (see section 20 above) has been performed you have either:
(i) Been found not to have been in compliance with this Agreement; or
(ii) Not provided responses satisfactory to Company in its sole discretion within any reasonable timeframe specified in a security review request or (where none has been specified 30 days from the sending or making of the request); then ANY WITHHELD ACCOUNT BALANCES WILL BE DEEMED FORFEITED AND YOUR ACCOUNT CLOSED.

God forbid we should actually talk about Party's rules. Delete this post immediately so that the flaming can continue! What were you thinking with this post?

And for the record:
Assuming that everything JJ said in his post is true, he is probably not "cheating", at least according to the Party rules. As long as the account was registered in someone else's name, the rules and regulations do not expressly prohibit playing on two separate accounts in one tournament. Yes, I guess an argument could be made that the "a person can only have one account" language would be violated if someone was playing on two accounts at the same time in a tournament. But, according to JJ's post, this is not what happened here. Playing on two different accounts non-simultaneously in the same tournament really doesn't seem to violate this agreement.
Of course, that is a different issue than whether it is ethically correct to do so. But, in true P5s fashion, most people here never distinguish the two concepts. Hell, I will wager that most people will read this post and interpret it to mean that I'm somehow approving of his behavior. GG nuance.

QUICK question to Mantis...I know you feel bad because you were the one who "kinda/sorta" started all of this...BUT, any comments on these posts that JJ made WHILE he was in the Tourney...Chalk them up as a joke? Or is this the same as what happened when everyone was ripping "TheBeat" apart 3 weeks ago?

Typical response. You need to work on your reading comprehension and spelling.

Let's say somebody was playing in the WSOP main event, and they had some sort of emergency that they couldn't play anymore, people would not tolerate a busted pro coming in and playing for them, so why is it tolerated in the internet world?
If JJ played in two accounts in the same tournament (even if not at the same time), it is wrong. Yes, playing two accounts at the same time takes it to another level of being wrong, but playing two accounts in a tournament not at the same time is still wrong.

Ok. But what if I told you it was not against the rules of the tournament?
|
|
|

Then I'd tell you that's why I don't play at Party. I don't want to play at a site that lets the same person play in a tournament multiple times

My point is that Party needs to clarify its rules. People could better spend their energy spent by persuading Party to amend its rules than by bashing a guy for doing something that (by his version of the facts) is not cheating.
|
|
|
|
So then, if I wanted to, I could have 10 friends sign up for the tourny, and I could play very aggressive one acocunt at a time until I bust out on each one until I get a big stack so I can do well, and that wouldn't be cheating?
I still don't see how anyone can claim it isn't cheating. If you play in the same tournament more than once, you are cheating. If the site wanted players to have a second chance, they would have given a rebuy
Just because it may not be clearly stated against the rules as cheating doesn't mean it's ethical
