So I am on pretty horrible downswing right now and it is pretty stressful. I was wondering what some of the top players thought about people "getting backed". Its hard for me to think of giving up half my winnings in a big score but I feel it I would play 100x better knowing I have certain rules and guidelines that I HAVE TO follow. Idk what to think! So I guess I am just wondering what I should do.

Generally I think it's pretty tough to find backing while on a horrendous downswing.  Additionally if you struggle with a downswing now how are you going to play if you're $30k in makeup and not getting to keep any winnings until that's paid back.  Backing can be really helpful if you stress is from not being able to afford losing.  You might try parttimepoker.com for short term backing.

Agreed.  And def look into parttimepoker.com if you're looking for a backer.  Just don't post a thread asking for a stake.  Read the rules, look for a stake that makes sense in the "Make a Deal" forums and apply for it.  You'll probably have to start small to prove yourself, but it's a worthwhile site.

Yo kronic...everything you said i can relate to with downswing i took two months off in sept and oct and upon my return in mid november was backed by a pro player...cant be happier, set a schedule stick to it, lot less stressful and lot easier to enjoy the game...

side note: i quit the same day u drew your miracle one outer on the turn for quad 3's in the $20r and later in the day were sittin at my $50r table and i lost a 50k pot to two outer and ended up bubbling....i pray to god that you never sit at my table again lol...jk GL

cliff note: gettin backed for +ev players is super +EV imo

and as far as downswings the best way to get out of them are to play lower stakes higher volume...i used to play 20-75's maybe 4 or 5 tourneys a day now i play 20mtts @ $5r - $26's only 2 days a week...its a fuckin grind but good way to start..break in between is also nice than gettin burnt out playin everyday

honestly, u own and i think the downswing will turn into a upswing if u get your h ead back on track, believe in yourself, and say fuck the moniess, let's just play the best.  Backers are good if u have problem keeping your money online or spending too much in "real life".  which is my problem :(  too many vacas, tvs, hookers, blow, watches i don't need, and boom, go from having shit load of money, to not so much nemore.  play more, weed out the variance and if u can keep your monies and not drain them on luxurious stuff, i think a backer is -EV.  half of your winnings really really suck.  You win 10K+ and have to ship him 5k?  blah imo.  but gl and let me know what u do.

haha sorry about that drew but there was nothign i could do about those threes lol.....but yeah thanks a lot for the input, I didnt mean for this post come off as me trying to advertise myself or anything. The more people I ask the more people say they couldnt be happier about getting staked. I would really appreciate more input from some more solid MTT'ers. Thanks a lot!

seriously, if u r a winning player you should never be backed.  you give up half your profit and have to make up your buyins anyways before you see any money on your end.  the only reason to get backed is if u r currently broke.  the object of poker is to gain wealth, and getting backed doesn't help the cause.  the key is to have your bankroll at a good enough size to withstand a bad run.  do the math on this one.  unless u want to get backed live and have to give up internet action to get it, then i could see it.  i would of puked if i had to give up half of a six figure score when i had enough money to put up buy in myself.

I was in a similar situation a couple months ago. It is obv crazy frustrating in a downswing but if you are a profitable player (which it looks like u are) giving up half is just stupid. I almost took a stake and then said f.uck it and been doing aight since
