Letter from Clonie Gowen to PocketFives

AN OPEN LETTER TO THE POCKET FIVES ONLINE COMMUNITY

From: Clonie Gowen

First, let me begin by apologizing to the Pocket Fives online community. Simply put, this is the most foolish thing that I have ever done and I am sincerely sorry. This is the type of action that you might expect from a teenager, but certainly not from a Full Tilt Poker Pro.

There is definitely no excuse for my actions, but I want to add a slight bit of clarification. It is important that you know that I employ an editor/collaborator, as many pros do. Rick Fuller edits most of my writing, which is something I will definitely reconsider moving forward. In a moment of very poor judgment, when editing this tip he added some copy that was obviously taken from another source - an action that goes totally against my professional ethics. In so doing, he created a tip that under no circumstance I would have submitted knowingly. He executed extremely poor judgment, as did I by not proofing the final version.

There is no excuse for this and ultimately the end product is my responsibility; a responsibility I fully accept. I will make the necessary changes to ensure that this never occurs again.

I hope this does not reflect poorly on my fellow Full Tilt Pros, all who take great pride in creating entertaining, informative and original tips for your enjoyment

With immense regret,

Clonie Gowen

Any way you look at this one thing is certain: Clonie Gowen has lost much respect in the eyes of online poker community.

I think this is probably exactly what happened.

Fuller concedes that he fully intended to plagierize the substance of the paragraph from JSUP and PocketFives. The fact that a few words did or didn't get changed here or there is completely beside the point.

In the world of writers, this is, and should be, a major offense. In the world of poker, I frankly don't see how any of us have been harmed -- at least not enough to mean anything.

The aggrieved parties here are JSUP and Pocketfives, both of whom seem willing to accept Clonie's apology. The rest of us should do the same and move on.

In the end, Clonie is the only person who is going to be really harmed by all of this. I'm confident Full Tilt is more than a little unhappy that Clonie allowed her boyfriend come manager to drag them into this stupidity.

That part won't be forgotten anytime soon.

Haven't read any posts which imply that Clonie's letter is contrived.  I have read posts which explicitly state that though.  Bum how can you believe that this letter isn't an attempt to minimalize her actions?  Her editor changed the words and she didn't look at it again.  Incredibly sloppy practice or intentional theft, either way, shows her in a poor light.

I agree.. sloppy, negligent, poor judgement... reminds me of a 1000 mistakes
I've made. I'm not sure if my apologies were considered sincere (unlikely)
but I was raised that the significance in an apology is both contrition and
a learning experience for character developement. We have no control over
the reception of an apology but i find it disingenuous to question her motives
in making this gesture.

PS: I've puposely excluded any of the legal or compensatory issues.....

it's damage control Randy.  As Phillies fans (with that stiff Abreu), that's a topic we know an awful lot about ;)

She's clearly full of it but what did we expect her to say?  She wasn't gonna come right out and say "I don't write a MFing thing, so yeah I stole it."

Rick: Clonie reviewed what I wrote, made changes where necessary, and submitted the article to Full Tilt for publication.

Um.....get your stories straight guys?

Cal that's very generout of you, Adam, and Lenny but as others have said this really has nothing to do with the P5s community, per se, except for you guys and JSup...FTP owes you guys a pretty nice chunk that you should split amongst the 4 of you in whatever way you see fit...

Everyone, we understand the PocketFives.com community has not been harmed.  The reparations we're getting are completely unofficial and we're just going to use it in some form of promotion for the community.  We already had a promo planned with Full Tilt, we'll add to that somehow.  You're right that the community is not entitled to anything due to this infringement, but the community will be getting something anyways by our choice.

Nova, please see my response to ICEMAN.  Nothing is final yet, but we're confident in our actions so far.
