To understand my scenario, you must first understand my day. I picked up my brand new expensive computer from a computer store today (I tried to build it, without knowing anything abotu CPUs, I suck!). I got home about an hour before the MTTs start, and it was very hectic, and I was stressing out a ton. My Grandparents come to the house every weekend. My Grandma is an absolute poker fanatic, and I try to teach her how to play just due to her sheer enthusiasm. I stake her occasionaly, as much -EV as it is. I'll be honest, I do not conserve money the best. I staked her to play the 500k at Party. A few hours later, I bust out of Party, and am only playing 1 MTT. Finally, I am relaxed. I see that she has amassed a decent stack. I start coaching her every hand. Once she got to aobut 10k in chips, I took over, still talking to her. When I got to 100k (tripled from 33k), I asked her to leave the room, and she could watch me on the laptop. I do get nervous and emotional when I get deep, and I figured I had a real shot at it. Of course, my grandma being the kind soul that she is obliged. Before I know it, I won the thing. I am thinking of buying her a new car, but I haven't put much thought to it.
I didn't really realize people would make that big of a deal of it until 10 people started IMing me telling me to prepare for shit. Curse at me, hate me, flame me. I can't say that I do expect less.
But, I just won 140k! Not even all this flaming can take away the amazing feeling I have right now.

I learned a tremendous amount here and became a winning poker player as a result of the advice received from reading everyone's thoughts on various topics. I will not, however, be a member of a group where activity seriously damaging to the growth of online poker is promoted. I call bullshit on JJ's story and have lost all respect for him. Really sicks when someone you admire for their ability and skill turns out to be unethical in their endeavors. He's clearly a great player, but, then again, so is S. Sheikan.

I hope you meant that as a pun, if so its very funny.

nope, but he's smart enough to know that it doubles his chances.
are you stupid enough not to realize that more than one pro does this,
and for a reason? JJ did it because it increases his chances of
winning. as did exclusive and everyone else who has been
discovered as a cheater.
you're all really blinded by the stardom of JJ and think he does no
wrong. you've got to question those you look up to people.
what JJ did is NOT cool, NOR should it be emulated.
if you do this, you're violating the rules, and taking the integrity out of the game.

Mr. Blonde.......it is because i enjoy JJ's game and think he is amazing and like him very much. but now it is like i just found out that santa isn't real.

GG JJ. It amazes me that this is becoming as big of a deal as it is.
Like blonde said, JJ owed nobody an explanation, what he did is not
against the rules. and as far as the ethics of the thing goes this
issue has been touched on many times before. To me it bears
little difference to percetage swapping and staking in live
tournaments. If JJ and his grandmother (or anyone else for that mater)
had been involved in this same situation in a live tiurnament after JJ
had busted he most certainly would have continued coaching her and
advising her from the rail. The fact is that online there is no
difference in him advising her to check/fold/bet and him actually
pressing the buttons himself. If the two players had been at the same
table then there COULD have been an opportunity for collusion. But it doesn't appear that happened. There was no CHEATING.

Like Dexter said what is the difference if he played or if he sat in a chair next to his grandma and told her what to do? There isn't one! Me and my Dad play all the time and if one of us busts out, we sit next to each other and give each other tips. What the hell is the difference? Would it be ok if he sat next to her and gave her advice? Or is it just wrong because he took over???

a little hostile. if the story is true, then it is not so bad as i imagined. allowing someone to take over for you is a gray area that should be better defined. i don't think it's fair to take over for someone if you were in the tournament yourself.
regardless, we probably wouldn't be talking about this if he didn't win. winning tournaments is difficult. congrats to the winner.*--if you didn't cheat.

What if Bax and I enter the same live event? He busts out early, comes over, and sees that I have a huge stack. Then, he sits down and plays for me the rest of the way, wins it, and I give him a cut of it.
That's allowed?
Ummmm..didn't think so.

thats a diff situation. Here he would prob give his grandma a cut, not his grandma giving him a cut, totally diff :)

I don't understand why you and the other haters here can't accept JJ's
explanation instead of dismissing his story and flat out calling one of
the top 3 online players a cheat. It doesnt make sense.
Yes...I understand why someone would do it, but do you really think he
would? Maybe taking over for someone is defined as cheating in
your eyes, but if I asked JJ to stand behind me and coach me while I
worked the mouse (for a cut) then wtf is the difference?
