In one of the posts recently there was a chart showing the stats of the top 100 players, most are about the same, with the exception of a few with a big Sunday win. I got curious how I compared.
My stats since 2005:
216 MTTs 39 cashes 13 FTs 7 Top 3s and 5 wins
I'm no Annette, but I'm good enough to win most MTTs I enter.
I've won the $50 + $5 freezeout on Stars twice, a $30 +$3 DS on Tilt, a $2 rebuy on Tilt and a few others.
The problem is, every time I step up and play a tourney with a larger buy-in, and try to win some money that can actually make a dent to my net worth, I can't make it happen. I've played the $300 + $20 on Stars twice, the $150 + $12 on Stars once, the $200 + $16 three times on Stars and twice on Tilt. I've even staked a friend of mine (good player, but a bit tight) in the Sunday Million 4 more times after winning sattelites, because I won't play poker on Sundays during football season.
Nothing, nada, nil, NOT EVEN A CASH, I've never cashed once in a MTT with a buy in over $100
Today I played the $150 + $12 on Tilt, and obv couldn't beat the JJ of a top 10 ranked player with my AK, for all of his chips and half of mine, for a top 5 stack with 40 left. Both times in the Stars $300 +$20 I got my money in with AQ on a Q high flop vs. a slowplayed KK, and I can't even think about how bad I ran on those Sundays because it will make me puke.
When will I break through, and did most of the top players go through the same type of thing before their 1st big score?
Sorry for venting, but I'm sure I'm not the only small timer that thinks he's one big win away from making a splash in the online MTT world.

Gank actually has an unreal high rate of FTs however he is just not closing out enough of those and has way to many 3rds and 2nds compared to 1sts.

yea i always kinda keep saying this about the sunday 215s....if i keep playing them eventually ill run hot and win like 50k!!! until then i keep checking the db and seeing my -15-20k in them. But for real i think i won a 109 when i hardly knew hand value, so obviously ull get a decent score eventually if you play enough of them! GL

I second that. I made a FT in the S Million and MANY, MUCH BETTER players than me didn't. How many coinflips in a row can you win? On the other hand, in the 20K guaranteed (100+9) freezeout with 200-300 players the better players are on top consistently.
Your stats sound impressive. Care to back them up? No user names?

So you've played what, 10 big buy ins? Way WAAAAAAY too small of a sample to worry about. Your cash rate is about 18%, so not cashing in 10 specific mtts is not a cause for concern. Keep swinging.

I have a fair amount of FTs in my life.. yet my biggest cash ever was 9k.. and that was over 2 years ago. I look at some peoples stats and they have 1 fluke tourney for like 50k.. yet I play TONS of tournies and that big score is definately elusive for me:(.. someday plz.

maybe you should analyze your strat in the later stages. cant all be down to bad luck. i came 9th 10th and 11th in 100$ multis last week, and i think i made errors in the later stages in all 3. espescially when i finished 9th, because i played tight on th Ft bubble because i wanted to make the FT.
it's like old thomas jefferson says
"i'm a great believer in luck, and i find the harder i work, the more i have of it."

Play more. Complain less.

239 MTT's is not a big enough sample size. Your bigger buyin tourneys, the $100's+, you have not played enough to put any significance into your non-cash streak.
Your numbers are OK, but I wouldn't count on them portraying any significance to accurate stats for you. That said, your numbers are good and definitely better than the average player. Keep playing your game and get back to us in like 1000+ MTT's. Gl to you sir.

I have had very similar problems, winning several 20 and 30 dollar mtts but NEVER taken down a 50 or 100, though several 2nds. i believe alot of it is psychological and alot of it is, as many have mentioned, that you have to play ALOT. i really dont play all that much as i am lazy and when i make money i just sit on it and use it until i need money again.

I guess having several great poker minds chime in with advice on what basically boils down to a bad beat post didn't get the message through to you, tough breaks happen, posting them here and dwelling on them will not make it better, very few people on this forum will have sympathy for you because we all take them often enough. You said money isn't the issue, so WTF? You have a family and a business, why are you dwelling on tough breaks in a 100$ multi? Eventually you will win one, regardless of your skill level. GL, please post bad beats in the bad beat section.

dont forget: to get to the money ( lets say top 10% of players) is BIG different to be in the top 3%... maybe you need some balls when you around and try to WIN, not just play for sure...
