Personal Bankroll Challenge, advice?

I have been playing poker for several years now, but recently decided to get serious about analyzing my play (good and bad) and using solid bankroll management. Success in anything takes hard work and discipline. I believe that is even more true in poker.

I have to be honest with myself, the strategies I have used so far have not worked. They have led to tilt sessions, frustration, and consistent losses. Worst of all, I have started to doubt my play. The truth is, I am not a bad poker player -- but I am terrible at managing my bankroll.

I am ready to look at poker as a long-term investment. That means I have to realize it will take several, agonizingly slow months to build my bankroll to where it has been.

But once it gets there, I will be in a position to use my new skills to continue building that bankroll.

As always, any advice is appreciated.

What do you like to play? SNGs, MTTs or Cash?

Mix of limit cash games, NL cash games, and NL SNG's.

I plan to multi-table 3 tables with 10% of my bankroll. Pretty standard.

i'd consider either playing cash or sngs primarily not both. i was mixing my time between sngs and cash and found the transition was forming leaks in my game. certain times i was gambling too much in one game where that really only works in the other. so as a primary bankroll builder stick to one.

I think standard for three tables would be about 6% of your BR, but opinions vary.

Jennifear has some great BR guidelines here on P5s, they're very conservative.

Over on Full Tilt Poker, if you're in the Full Tilt Academy, there's a great video on Chris Fergusen's BR management guidelines, which are a little more liberal.

Personally, I try to keep my average buyin at about 1% of my BR, so when I four-table I am risking 4%.  My strategy is sort of halfway between Jesus and Jennifear's guidelines.

If you're having BR issues, I think most people would recommend being more conservative rather than less... I've had 30 losing sessions in a row playing MTTs, and if I had been risking 3 1/3% of my BR in each session, well, you can see what would have happened there.

However you choose to proceed, good luck!
