Today I played in the $340 NLHE WSOP Circuit event at Harrah's Rincon in San Diego (wearing my P5s hat of course).  I was doing pretty well until we got down to about 60 people left (out of 455).  The person on my right pushed all in and I looked down to see KK.  I called and he looked sick as he turned over 87 of diamonds. Total steal attempt.  Well, of course he made a flush and crippled me.  5 hands later I was out in 60th.

It's about a 40 minute drive from Harrah's to my home.  It was not a pleasant drive.  I got home, pulled the car into the garage and as I went into the living room my 20-month old son greeted me with a HUGE smile and said "Daddy!"  Then he gave me a big hug because I had been gone all day and he was happy to see me.

You know what?  I'm the luckiest guy in the entire world.

i think that that is the best attitiude i have ever seen and i know i am a girl so it doesn't mean a whole lot coming from me but at least one poker player has their priorities straight.  I just got out of a relationship because a guy was more into poker and i love poker then the people who ar eimportant in his life and sometimes it is refreshing to hear that poker is not the only damn thing that runs everyones emotional well being.  sorry no puncuations
lol

Sorry about your relationship.

I've actually been thinking about this perspective thing a lot lately and this just kind of sealed it for me.  I think my family might be the biggest Anti Tilt Factor in my life.  I think 5 years ago if something like that happened I would have immediately jumped into a ring game and possibly blown another $2,000 steaming all the way.  Tonight, I just said, "Screw it.  I'm going home to my wife and kid."

Underdog, sounds like you're a much better player than you were five years ago and a healthier player too.  I've played with you a few times and have been impressed with your skills.  The bottom line is, as your game continues to improve, you already know you are going to take sicker beats than this one, and some of them might be with a whole lot more money on the line.  Some day you might be on the WSOP Main Event bubble and go out like this.  Regardless of the situation, you will overcome the beat, because your life is devoted to something more important than the fall of a river card.  This can only help you as a poker player and as a person.  Good luck at the tables.

NH. And your son knew you got your money in with the best of it, a huge favorite. You can't do anymore than that. That is all. Carry on.

Underdog, you are SO right here...nothing can change your attitude as quick as a hug from your wife or kid (even tho I still have to use godchildren for this).  Ugly beat = go watch a movie snuggled up with honey.  Multiple benefits are that you improve your relationship, don't waste money tilting, and feel better all at once.

gg poker after a bad beat, nh movie time
