PokerXFactor.com: New Interactive Quiz with Scoring

We've been working on adding a full, interactive quiz feature to the PokerXFactor Hand Viewer and we have a test up and running. In the quiz below, the only goal is to "play like me" (stop laughing, I had to use someone's hand histories!) ... We all know there are many ways to play a hand, so in the examples below it's simply scored based on how I played them.

The real value here, of course, would be to have a hand history from a pro ... but this is just a test to get feedback. Please let me know what you think. At the end (I have 77 in the last hand), you will get a summary of how your moves matched what I did. There are 25 questions in all. And don't forget, you can animate your hand histories at PokerXFactor.com and post the Flash animation here at Pocketfives.

Thanks for any feedback!

Yep that is the idea! Imagine playing along with a pro through 400 hands ... both his or her mistakes as well as the winning plays.

BTW, the quiz thing is great!

But How The Hell do you keep getting all those Pocket Pairs?
...and hit Sets with them!!!!!!

I think we found the key to mindwise's success in MTTs!

Hey all, since many of you play more aggressively, let's hear the details. Let's turn this into an educational exercise. How would you play these hands in the quiz? When were you more aggressive?

To make it easier, here is the hand list, just add comments hand by hand:

Hand 1: 4h 4c

Hand 2: 9d 9s

Hand 3: Ad Jc

Hand 4: 8c 8d

Hand 5: 3c 3s

Hand 6: Qc Qh

Hand 7: 7d 7h

Thanks for the feedback!

Ok I am writing these and watching at the same time. BTW I also played these more agressive and only got 12 out of 25. Here is my input.

Hand 1- I would raise these 4's in ep...why limp? take control. If you limp and get re-raised by blinds or button your in bad shape. Post flop play was good. Bet pot and took the hand down.

Hand 2- One next to the cutoff limped...and you limped letting the blinds in for free???? Why. I woulda raised the button shutting the blinds out and hopefully winning the pot right there. After flop he bet out and u flat called? I woulda raised and shut him out right there, no point in letting him see another card.

Hand 3- Blinds are low, i like the check from the bb. After top 2 on flop, i also bet pot. Dont wanna slow play this. 2 callers hmmm?? Turn is golden..we filled up. I love the check here. Draws the other 2 off. First guy is obv weak betting 30 into big pot..second guy raises it up. Your play is fine, some might prefer a riase, but you are goin for a total trap. River perfect bet.

Hand 4- Folded around to us 8-8 def raise..nice play. 1 caller. Not a bad looking flop, i woulda bet 3/4 pot (that wasnt an option) on both turn and riv, sb was obv weak or trapping, my read was he was weak and kept smooth calling, put him on lower pp..which was correct. The check on riv was correct, value betting is mistake, he can only call with superior hand..well played.

Hand 5-Blinds are low, this is the one hand that you may have played more agressive than me...I might have even folded this hand in ep with a raise from utg or utg+1. You called and so did like 3 or 4 others, I dont know if i want to play a hand like 3-3 from that position so early in a tourney, either way you hit ur set and got paid off, nh

Hand 6- Q-Q obviously with an ep limper i like the raise to 135 with most of the table to act after you. Flop hit you hard...two checks and you bet minimum?? This screams trap to me. I believe pot was at 400 i woulda bet about 340. Your giving 2 others odds to draw at hands like A-2 or 6-7 suited. Turn filled you up...i like the check, it made oppenent think u were weak as he raised your river value bet...you min raised him i think..i woulda prob jammed. He folded anyways. so checking the turn worked.

Hand 7- Late in the tourney 7-7...I like the raise. 1 caller and it is not a dream flop. Out of position I do not want to show weakness. You checked the flop, which to me screams weakness, i woulda bet the flop out. He bets out....if i somehow checked that flop i def woulda go with a check raise...you passively just smooth called his bet, which I didnt like. Again letting him see the turn for cheap. Turn was fine, you bet out and he insantly folded.

Well there you have it, overall mindwise I think you got a great thing goin here. Keep it up. Those are just some ways i woulda played those hands, maybe wrong who knows? I would be happy to do this analysis every week, if people enjoy. Take care

Thanks for your thoughts! Let's take a look closer. We should probably move this to the hand advice section.

Hand 1- I would raise these 4's in ep...why limp? take control. If you limp and get re-raised by blinds or button your in bad shape. Post flop play was good. Bet pot and took the hand down.

I think you have to take a look at the chip stacks on this one. I have 14,600 chips while players after me have 100k, 50k, 111k, SB 36k, BB 81k. I admit if they come over the top of my limp, I fold. But if I raise say to 5000 and they come over the top I fold too. In some cases I am willing to bet my whole tournament in situations like this, but in this case I wasn't, wish I could remember why. I don't think it's a no brainer that you have to raise here preflop.

Yes I agree.

Yea I think the minimum bet is too small.

I will fold this hand in this position. Not sure why I called here.

Yea the 70 chip (2.5 times the blind) is a curious bet. This may have been a situational thing where the players I was up against were aggressive, but they don't really don't have the chips. I guess it's a true value bet and I'm hoping one of them has KQ or something, but that's unlikely. Really, even though I like betting with a big hand, maybe the standard check here is correct and hope an ace or king hits on the turn.

I believe I was being cautious because I thought I was beat here.

-----------------------

I can see the value here of putting the quizzing into a full hand history for a tournament because then the person taking the quiz gets a real feel for play on the table. It was a pain to code just these few hands so we'll have to develop software on our side to do it faster. Thanks again for the feedback.

I play 44% like you. It says I play the opposite of how you play. Don't know if that's a good thing or not. You seem to like PPs and betting the minimum a lot. I folded the 3-3 to the raise and would not bet the minimum in a lot of those situations. I checked or made a pot sized bet. On the first hand with 4-4, I would raise all in or fold. No half measures. With 7 BBs, I'm not playing any hand unless I am prepared to commit to it. If I am committing anyway, might as well go all-in and try to take the blinds.
