I'm in the $77 6-max turbo right now and it's still in late reg. I'm sorry but 1 hour late registration for a turbo mtt is beyond ridiculous. I could see maybe 20 minutes max, but one hour? Get real...
Do you not realize how +ev t is for you, that people are late regging with 20 bb stacks when you have already been playing for an hour. God you people who dont like late reg are retarted.

The way I understand it, late registration stays open until the maximum players is reached, and has nothing to do with reaching the guarantee. I think this is great.

you guys realize that when people reggie 30 mins late their stacks are way below average, giving them no room to work with and turning their entire tourney into a crapshoot. ultimately adding more dead money to the prizepool. think about it. I disagree with this. When you come in late you skip the early stages when blinds are 10/20 and hop right into the larger blinds, which is when the hands really matter. I prefer this and actually try to register 40 mins late or so, avg is usually around 3800, I have 3000, and blinds are around 50/100.
That's just me though. I can see how people don't like it.

how is this ever a bad thing. it puts more players into a tournament and they start with a below average stack. i wish late registration was open for 2 hours!!! hell yeah i want as many people as possible signing up when the blinds are like 100-200 and they can start with 15bbs when the average is like 9000. it boggles my mind that anyone has a problem with this. more players = more bad players = more money

The most tangible negative thing it does is kill potential overlays,
which I guess is preferable to having the site lower the guarantee.
I'd rather play a 6 hour MTT than a 9 hour one. Even if it does add
money to the prize pool, I don't see how it's necessarily dead money. I personally don't like opening and having a bunch of perfect reshoving stacks put me to decisions.
On
some level it does bug me that sites can just leave the registration
open indefinitely if an overlay threatens their guarantee. Guarantees
are kind of pointless nowadays. If it's not met when it starts, draw
out the registration. If you still can't meet it, lower the
guarantee. MBN to own a poker site.

I'm in a 3r tourney right now and they ended late reg. 14 mins in at about 2100 bucks in the prize pool.
It's a 3.5k gtd tourney.
Do they really expect 1400 worth of 3 dollar rebuys?
I'm not complaining, but i remember seeing this thread and thinking about how much i hated when that happened.

Uhm, I agree with OP. It is seriously stupid that for any mtt that doesn't meet the guarantee they keep registration open basically until it does.
Every tourney I've looked at today has far exceeded the guarantees and they seem to be higher than without 1hr late reg.
I'm currently playing in the 3.30R (50k gtd). The prize pool is $120,711.00 (1hr late reg over). This is 241% bigger than guaranteed.
1hr late reg makes prize pools bigger nuff said ;)

your right about one thing, it does kill overlays.... but id rather take first for 9k then first for 5k even if the latter has an overlay. Theres no way to quantify it but im 99.98% sure that a weaker field where alot of the players start out with a huge disadvantage is way more +ev then a small overlay.
if your playing mtts 6 hours is about = to 9 hours. either way a session is a session, just stop registering earlier then. It is definetly dead money for alot of reasons when people register late. 1. they start with a more shallow stack. this means they will be shoving sooner and lighter and probably incorrect since most players play bad. 2. MOST PLAYERS ARE BAD. the more players in the tournament = more bad players.
and also barely any good players register for a tourney 49 minutes into it unless there running late. it is not strategical to register late, it is -ev. the majority of players registering 59 minutes into the tournament are thinking "sweet 700 people are already out im getting close to the money already" this people are literally dead money.
I dont see how its a disadvantage to have alot of reshoves stacks who register late at your table, just change your play to accomadate that and open tighter and call shoves wider when its the right player.
<<<<---------------- is still waiting for 1 viable argument as to why this new late registration policy is anything but the nuts.
and P.S.......... huge field donkaments is what stars is about. if you want smaller fields just play on tilt and ub. the variance on stars was already huge and now is bigger, but its way worth it. its like complaining the wsop main event is too big. no such thing for a poker tournament imo, its all about maximizing your ev and that goes way up as the field gets softer and softer

I love the late registration! Especially with the rebuys...1st in most mtts is taking like 20% more now. Who cares if people can reg right at the 2nd hour? Its definetly +ev to play an hour of deep stack poker with donks...this is seriously a good thing.

Reminds me of $20 rebuy LIVE sing table tourny(usually 6ppl or so) I used to play. It started 1hr rebuy strick rules. After a while people kept showing up 1.5hrs late, 2hrs late, etc etc and they just got rid of the 1hr rule. Some donks would rebuy when it was down to 3people and we paid top 2. They would buyin as BB and be all in....the funny thing was I used to get 150-200 for winning with the old rule...turned into $300-400 and I still didn't spend more on buyins or win a less % of the time.
Too bad I moved out the area of that game.
