So what would happen if one of the final 9 players died before resuming play?

I know it's a weird question, but i have a sick mind about these kind of things.  Someone half joked about "offing" a player before the final table and it got me wondering.  Seriously -- what would happen?

Well it was meant as a joke, but since you asked i'm sure it's theoretically possible for a place like Lloyds of london would insure you for more than 9th place money.  They do all kinds of weird stuff.  Kind of like when a kid comes back for his senior year in college, they insure themselves against injury.

Jordan Smith would be a much richer man.

edit: not that you're already not, Jordan.

Likely 2 things.

1.  You'd be detained for questioning
2.  They'd blind off and, given the structure, would not likely finish 9th.  CL would probably fold to like 3rd or 4th.

Is ghosting allowed in the WSOP?  I suppose that would solve any issues.

I would be the official "blinder" for low pay in which I would throw out antes and blinds for the dead player.

i think the better question is..at what point will Kayne West come out and say "Phil Ivey your good and all but Chris Moneymaker was the best poker player ever"

Don't know if this is just mere conjecture, but I heard that Peter Falk would be reinstated as Columbo, and carry out a seemingly idiotic yet masterfully genius investigation into the death whilst FT play continues. Every time Joe Cada (because he is most likely suspect due to Gangsta hat) tries to 4-bet bluff you just here the words, 'Eh, Joe, just one more question, just one more question.'

Like i said, might just be a rumour

I'm pretty sure these guys get the ninth place money when they left back in July so as far as who the money goes to that's already taken care of assuming they don't move up the pay scale.

If a november 9 member dies, Lil wayne is flown out to the Rio as soon as possible to the final table.  When he arrives he will make the dead subjects chips rain on the rail while him and Greg Raymer rap battle..meanwhile play continues.

FUCKIN AWESOME!!!!

Seriously, I think you would be blinded out.  It's an interesting spot, but I can't see allowing a pro to come in at the final table and play for the stack (that would be unfair to the other players, even if it's a pro not in the tournament).

I would imagine this is what happens if you died at any other point during the main event, not sure it would really matter that you died on the hiatus portion.
